Una historia aburrida y predecible, destaca una crítica a la sociedad de la época en la que se veían las relaciones acordes al beneficio que estas aportaran a la mujer.

From the very onset of the novel it feels different to other Austen's works. Compared to her usual heroines Anne is much more grown up and settled and in a way not as naive (not sure whether this is the right word or not but I shall use it nevertheless). I guess the maturity that comes with age really does show.

I liked it but I'm afraid that's all I can say. There's not much going on throughout the story, definitely more of a slow burner. I only started getting butterflies towards the end of the book, and then they were really short lived. The first half dragged on and then Jane Austen decided to swiftly end everything without elaborating more into the relationship.

And yet I enjoyed it, just not as much as I hoped to but would still recommend this to anyone interested in the works of Jane Austen. Maybe not as a starting point though ♡

Editing star rating to 4 stars now that I’ve had to dissect it for teaching a Literature class. Still not my cup of tea, nothing happens - but I GET it.

The best Austen book.

I thought this book was good, (although not nearly as good as Pride and Prejudice). I had to read it for school over the summer. The first half of the book (or volume one) was sort of long and uneventful, but then it starts moving at getting funnier and there is more romantic tension at the end of volume one until the end of volume two. It was enjoyable!
