book stuff book stuff. I HATE THIS MS MAAS'S WRITING. it sucks so bad no lie only truth. like she is so fucking repetitive I noticed that in acotar when feyre WOULD NOT shut the fuck up about the painting shit. my god she was so annoying in that book but anyway. I annotated my copy which I love doing with books like this its my shit. but I noted a section of some FOUL ASS writing: "Her lips had withered to nothing but deep, dark lines around a hole full of jagged stumps of teeth -- like she had gnawed on too many bones." WHOLE OTHER PARAGRAPH "And I knew she would be gnawing on my bones soon if I did not get out" when I read that shit for the first time I genuinely was wondering if this book had an editor like what the hell even. I didn't know I was reading a sitcom script BUT ANYWAY. I also thought that the mate thing was kind of weird like idk something abt it was giving like animalistic desires it was kind of strange 2 me but made for good story so whatever. the only other reason that I didn't give it five stars was because I feel like out of the enjoyers ig?? of the acotar series I wasn't as invested as everyone else. it feels like the audience is more millennial women and I obviously don't really fit there. this series has a huge cult following on TikTok but they all feel very diehard and not like casual enjoyers but that's just my observation idk wtf I'm talking about. HOWEVERRR as much as her writing sucks sometimes her stories are fucking incredible. the world is amazing. the characters are amazing. the romance is top tier. idk man the lore ig?? is great. it was overall a very very enjoyable time. LETS GET INTO IT THO IF U INSIST. so I'm basically just gonna go through my tabs :) bro I am so ashamed I had so much hate for feyre that carried over from the last book that I found her trauma actually annoying in the beginning. I am so ashamed now cuz she grew into her bad self. it rlly shows too in my annotations oops. her trauma is so completely valid and I know that now. AND I completely missed Tamlins red flags like actually I could not be more stupid. I love Rhysand and theres no words that can properly describe it. He reminds me a lot of Damon from tvd but like hot and book version so 1000 times better. THE WAY HE WAS SO FLIRTY WITH HER IN THE BEGINNING HAD ME fdjfj. AND HE RESPECTS HER FEELINGS?!! the magic sexting was so fucking funny 2 me bro. the jealousy at the summer court?? I live for a good jealousy plot. oh my god when they were basically fukin at the court of nightmares good lord I can't speak of it naughty naughty. and my faaaav chapter was chapter 44 when they celebrated star fall it was so fucking cutesy. THIS MOTHERFUCKER REALLY SAID "you're exquisite" SHUT UP ILL BEAT UR ASS. learning how he had dreams of her because they were mated since the beginning was simply wild. like ur telling me this motherfucker knew the whoooole time????!!!! I simply cannot. AND HIS MOTHERS RING???!! AAANNDD THEY SCARED ME SO BAD WHEN THEY MADE ME THINK HYBERN BROKE THE MATING BOND JESUS CHRIST. this book emotionally wrecked me in the best way and I want to do it again. that's enough about rice and beans though. I hated those fucking queens my god I hope they never made it out of the damn cauldron. selfish hags. I loved the inner circle bro very cutesy. nesta stayed annoying as fuck and her and cassian?? like okay but he could do better. ALSO WAIT fucking elain and Lucien I completely forgot abt until just now that was wiiiild. OH MY GOD I ALMOST FORGOT abt the huge badass fight scene when Velaris was attacked. BRO HER WATER WOLVES???!!! she slayed so fucking hard. okay but I think that's all I rlly enjoyed this book tho I'm excited to see what feyre as high lady of the night court?????!!! (that is unreal and she slays so hard) does in the spring court with Tamlin. but Lucien knows what's up me thinks. ANYWAYS. book stuff book stuff book stuff.

No matter what, the best part of this book is Rhysand and Feyre. Seeing Rhys do everything for Feyre out of his love for her was so sweet and it broke my heart when she didn’t appreciate it. The beauty of this book is really shown through those two. Feyre, learning to heal after what happened in ACOTAR, finds the steadfast support of Rhys jarring at first, but over time she comes to realize that the life she was living before was not her own and decides to take control of her own destiny.

I enjoyed this book immensely and loved the characters. The Inner Circle have this chemistry together that is unparalleled and adds to the enjoyment value even more.

Ok, now onto the only gripe I have about this masterpiece. Which is Feyre. I feel like the 1st person POV that this book is set in really undermines Feyre and limits her potential as a character. All of the Is encourage me, as the reader, to put myself into Feyre’s shoes and pretend to be her while I read and that is ok in some situations, but in others I really don’t like it. Maybe I’m comparing her too much to SJM’s other lead Aelin, who is arguably my favorite character ever, but I feel like so much more expression could have come from Feyre as a character.

Much better than book one, world building, characters, tropes and plot twists were better fleshed out.
Still not ground breaking in 2022 and still not faire porn.
If  I have to read 55 chapters for 10 pages of barely smut, its just a normal fantasy romance, I wanted more about the war, the wall, the magic system and feyre's father dying and sisters getting engaged and turned into fae themsevles.
It's mostly  fantasy romance  that's easy to digest and annotate.

Originally read Feb 2022.
If I could give more stars then I would. This 2nd book in the ACOTAR series is absolutely incredible. Mindblowingly brilliant. I cannot explain properly just how fantastic Sarah J Maas tells this story, paints this world and develops these characters. I think this is my favourite book I’ve ever read.
The slow burn between Feyre and Rhysand is just, chef’s kiss, and how would I even describe their relationship once it’s exploded and no longer burning slowly?! Beautiful.
I am so utterly in love with this book and with Feyre and Rhysand, and so utterly grateful to be lucky enough to read this story.
Highly recommend.
Satisfactory ending? Yes, now pass me book 3.

Re-read: Dec 2023. Still 5 stars.
