“Do not believe that you alone can be right.
The man who thinks that,
The man who maintains that only he has the power
To reason correctly, the gift to speak, the soul—
A man like that, when you know him, turns out empty.”

When the law of the land rings hollow, what do you choose to follow - the rule of the kings, or what you know to be right in your heart and soul. It is precisely this dichotomy between illegal and immoral that's explored in "Antigone"

A work from circa 441 BCE that feels relevant to our lives and experiences is one worth experiencing, without a doubt.

read this for english class a couple weeks ago. i like the themes of natural vs state law and it was interesting writing about how this play ties into gender roles. i think natural law is definitely representative of divinity, but also the hierarchy of genders, especially at the time. this play was fine but i didn’t get much from it
