Intense

This is a short story that will get you ready for the series that is to be coming. This is a very intense back and forth fight of love and survival. Family and demons of kind. What will this story bring and how will this epic story pan out.

Just an okay read. I didn't find it particularly exciting enough to read the next book. I also wasn't a huge fan of the present tense or how slow it took for them to strike the deal involving the kisses.

Got this book during a stuff your kindle day, didn’t realize it’s a series with additional books. The one was fine, skimmed most of it because characters weren’t flesh out. Not gonna continue the series right now, maybe if I’m ever bored and run out of books in my mile long tbr. But not likely

Clara is out for blood. Her mother killed by vampires and she will not let them scare or control her. She kills a vampire in a meadow for revenge, thinking the less vampires that exist, the better. But as the night called the Claiming draws near, she could lose her independence and be taken away from her home, her sister and her gambling father. Her father gives Clara away to settle his debts with Alaric. Little does he know, Alaric is a vampire. He has never taken part in the Claiming, and has never wanted to. But someone has been pushing him towards it. He has his own motives behind agreeing to take Clare, but she will not submit. They make a deal with a kiss, but how long can they resist for?

Finished the book but it feels like the book has been cut in half instead of ending how a finished book was. Barely even getting started and boom- have to buy a second book when the first was on ku. I'd have given it higher marks if it wasn't left at a weird point.

It had an eerily similar plot starter that matched acotar-including the hunting with bow and arrow and forbidden woods. Stealing items and the love interest at the start that was forbidden and 'stealing forbidden moments in a barn'.

The plot point wasn't on it too. I couldn't get into alaric and Clara's Romance because it wasn't well written enough. There was no sexual tension building and it lacked a build up.

I’m sorry but this was too slow burn for me… 77% in the FMC Clara still doesn’t know what she wants to do!?? Hot dark and twisted Alaric is fighting his instincts to avenge another and Clara is just running around having dinner and pretending to stab him. This did have all the best tropes, the angst between the main characters is great but nothing substantial happens. A huge miss for me, and the series is 5 books deep? There was nothing for me in book 1 to keep me going for another 4 installments. Happy reading…
