Meh. It was okay, I guess. But didn't add anything to the universe for me.

A great story that fills in some background on what happened with Bobbie in between the second and third books. Told from the perspective of her nephew and focusing on him working to get placement in upper school on Mars.
The authors do a very good job of writing a story from the mind of a 16 year old who also happens to be a great biochemist. The boy thinks with his glands one minute and reaction flows the next while in over his head in his little teenage rebellion. Luckily his aunt is around.
This story was adapted to the 4th season of The Expanse TV series.

I mean I will take anything with Bobby but would have much preferred the story to focus on her entirely.

Not necessary to read for story continuation and I oddly felt like it didn't add much to world building since it felt like it applied to literally anywhere in the universe (I don't even remember what station/planet it was on). Our main character wasn't the most engaging but the story was ok and like I said Bobby is here.

This novella seems out of place in the grand scheme of the rest of the series. It's about a teenage chemist on Mars that's making and selling drugs on the side all while in the background protests and minor clashes are happening. The only character that this expands upon is Bobby, who was integral to Caliban's War. We don't get much more depth on her here, but we do see that once again she's tough, smart, and clearly a well trained marine with integrity just looking for how she fits into the world. In my opinion, this novella reads almost like a deleted scene to a movie, it didn't add enough to be included, but is a bit entertaining in it's own right and only those really engrossed in the greater work care about it.

This was a good little bit of background and character growth for Draper, one of my favorite characters. It was quick and fun. Really humanizes the Martians.

You don’t need to read this to keep up with the major books, but it does provide insight into the rest of the books.
