Pillars of the earth was an unexpected read for me, I’ve been staring at this book for years and keep putting it off because well... it’s about building churches.
I’m actually super suprised. With how much I enjoyed this, we follow the life of a town, of families, of a prior, of kings and Queens, birth, death, how it effects everyone and how complex lives can be.
The writing was fantastic the descriptions some of the best I’ve read and the characters were so real I felt like I was there watching their lives prosper and fall to pieces.
Solid 4/5 stars but I doubt I’ll be rereading this anytime soon based on the size alone.

Several people whose book judgement I trust recommended this to me. I went in skeptical. I am so glad I listened to them -- I loved this book! It's definitely an investment of time at 973 pages but totally worth it. The characters are what made it. It can feel a bit like a soap opera with all the plot details but it worked for me. I wanted to know where everyone's lives ended up -- there were certainly characters I was rooting for and against. It was easy to put it aside at times to take a little break (there isn't a cliffhanger at the end of every chapter) but I always found myself wanting to go back to it.
