I had to read this book for class and it is the only reason I finished it. You cannot ignore all the events of the book and all the trauma that is inflicted on the main character in attempt to make it, a somewhat happy ending.
What I found most disturbing was the amount of sexual undertones. How this book is marketed for children is beyond me.

Jacqueline Wilson has been my favourite author was I was growing up, and this is probably my favourite among her works. I didn't understand it very well the first time I read it but I was enraptured by the atmosphere and how Violet saw magic everywhere she went.
The way Wilson describes things was my favourite thing as a child, and it stands today. The characters were all fascinating, especially Violet. She felt like a very real nerdy girl trapped in her own shell, idolising certain people due to her low self-esteem, her overactive imagination painting the people around her in such interesting ways.
I've always loved Nick Sharrat's cute art. He went full out gothic illustrations here and I think they capture the vibe immensely.
