I knew what was going to happen after the first chapter, but I was entertaining at times

my first Lucy Score book!! this little cutie takes place in a small town called Knockemout, which is pretty much the exact type of town you'd imagine if you thought of small mountain town. When Naomi Witt rolls into town looking exactly like her felon sister Tina, it isn't a surprise that everyone in town is wary. But when they learned why Naomi ended up in Knockemout, they are quick to change their minds about her. Naomi wasn't expecting to take care of her niece all while fanning the flame of her romance with the town grump, Knox. It's only a matter of time until Tina comes and ruins it all..

While most of the characters in this book are quite likable, I did not find myself connecting with most of them personally. This book is also NOT for shy readers. This was a 5/5 for spice level, I almost felt embarrased reading it.

What the book did well: the SPICE
Where it fell short: I wanted more emotional depth from the characters!

Bump up or down on TBR: Up!

Themes
-enemies to lovers trope
-small town romance
-custody battles

Content Warnings: domestic abuse

500 pages later…. I finished. The last 200 pages were action packed, more faster paced, and enjoyable. Which heavily carried the once rated 3 stars. With how lengthy and drawn out this book was - I lost interest and had to force myself to finish it.

Definitely wasn’t my favorite reads.

I’m torn.

The first couple hundred pages were just cringe.
Yes, she loves coffee.
Yes, he’s the unreachable, self proclaimed "bad boy".
Yes, she’s witty (no pun intended) and supposed to be this relatable lead character.
Yes, he’s filthy rich, of course.
We get it. But she’s also in her thirties and he’s in his fourties, acting like teens who barely hit the big 20.

The pacing was off, too. I get that the start of a book usually holds the most part of information but come on. We jump straight into info-dumping, one thing happening after the other. Again, sometimes life’s exactly that. Maybe it wouldn’t have been such a pain if the FMC wasn’t portrayed as such an omg-no-talking-before-coffee-quirky-girlie.
Anyway, first we are drowning in information and everything is so incredibly fast paced and then the rest of the book seems to play out in slow motion.

There was a couple of things that rubbed me the wrong way.
1. - Viking? No, just no.
2. - What the hell was this "I don’t need nobody, lemme fight my brother over a RANDOM woman I don’t know and DEFINITELY am not attracted to"? Bruv.
3. - Calling a person you don’t know "Baby". Know your place, mister.
4. - The mum was supposed to be funny but all I got was low-key inappropriate.
5. - The whole third act breakup. What the hell.
6. - What’s the deal with this random, "action packed" ending?
Just to name a few examples.

However, not everything was negative.
I did appreciate the aunt - niece aspect. That really grew on me. Throughout the book out main characters also to better in terms of the cringe. Their relationship (before the third act breakup) was cute. Some parts were even funny and the spice was okay.

All together the storyline could’ve been shorter and it probably would’ve made to book better.

I'm going to need a little time to emotionally recover from this book
