This was an incredible read. The slow build of tension at the beginning gave the plot real emotional weight, and the ending had me sobbing. I was really glad that
Daunis and Jamie didn’t end up together, giving Daunis some control and agency in a situation with a massive power imbalance

This book was a ride I was not prepared for!!

Despite not completely understanding the Anishinaabe terms or the history, this story does an amazing job of incorporating both for the reader. It also does a great job of tying modern and social problems faced by the Native youth with general life issues.

I did have to take some pauses for the more intense scenes but the main character's euqally intense emotions and drive to find a goal are what had my pushing through and rooting for her.

It's a great mystery novel that gives Nancy Drew, and also centers native culture, real contemporary issues, and native women. Big recommend if you're looking to get sucked into something!
