Initially I was very hesitant about this book given how seriously it took music, and that not being a topic I find myself readily drawn to for 9+ hours. However, the book (and character) was self aware enough in this regard that I warmed to the protagonist and persisted with the book. Ultimately I finished the audiobook in a day, which has to be a good thing, and enjoyed the writing, delivery via audiobook and that there was almost a lack of jeopardy in the plot points- I never found it particularly stressful or nerve wracking. However I would also say that I never particularly warmed to the lead characters, and ultimately found myself somewhat disinterested in their on-off relationship to the point that the ending felt like somewhat of a non-entity.

I felt like many of the characters were two dimensional in a way that didn’t distract from the story but perhaps explains why I found myself inclined to rate the book 3.5 stars despite consuming it at such a rapid pace.

It pains my Millennial heart to DNF this. It was my dream book being set in the early 2000s and having music references throughout.

Unfortunately, it missed the mark with creating an actual storyline. I found the main character to be pretentious and simply unlikable. To me, it was a bunch of musical opinions and no real substance to the plot.

Bonus point though for referencing Total Hate 95 from my all-time favorite band, No Doubt.

very interesting plot however i was not a huge fan of the main character.

I went into this book with too high of an expectation and was let down. I was 53% into this book and was very hopeful about the plot, the progression of each character, and the way the story would unfold but i found myself annoyed at the main character and hoping someone would put me out of my misery. I didn’t dnf the book because i was hoping it would get better and the ending wasn’t even that good but it brought my 3 stars to a 3.25. Overall, kind of disappointed at how much i disliked this book because of how excited I was to start it. You live and you learn I guess.

The silver lining, I did get a pretty cool playlist out of it though.
