I think my problem with these books is that the characters are all going through the most dramatic situations possible in order for everything else to just seem so good that you don't even bat an eye. There were mentions of cancer, heart failure, moms who gave their kid for adoption but then adopted another one and tried to set them up (?), toxic abusive husbands, blackmail, dead father figures... There comes a point where you just have to say enough.
This wasn't the series for me and I'm going to stop before I just end up hating on all of these books when I can just spare us all the time.

This one did not work for me - It could very well be me. The beginning hooked me - but when they met again I stopped being interested in their story. I was not feeling her at all. At all - so I just didn’t continue.

WOW did I LOVE Connor and Aaliyah!! This was a one night stand turned second chance romance, and I loved the way the two found their way back to each other. They both had their own reservations, but their connection was undeniable. Brittaniy Cherry made me feel and her characters have flaws and struggles that feel oh so real!!

"The truest form of authentic love began when one could look in the mirror, see the flaws, and still accept yourself as a full being who deserved the highest level of happiness."
It's funny how I thought, going into this, that Eastern Lights would be a romantic comedy. Though it's book two in the Compass series, it reads as a perfect standalone.
If you've read Southern Storms, you know Connor Roe as Jax's sidekick and self-professed bestie. Connor is all grown up and taking the New York City real estate world by storm. He meets Aaliyah Winters in a chance encounter. In different places in their lives, they decide to have a night of fun (not that kind of fun) and leave it up to fate if they meet again.
Fast forward a couple of years and they're back together. Still on different paths, but they're building their friendship. Eastern Lights is a story of true friendship turned soulmate love. Connor and Aaliyah's circumstances lead them back to each other and their story development is supreme. There were definite moments of laughter, many moments with tears, and plenty of twists. Brittainy Cherry reigns supreme at tugging on your heartstrings with this beautiful story.
