I've dubbed Kate Meader the Queen of Fire and Ice. She did a kickass job with the Hot in Chicago series, bringing the heat with those hot-as-hell firemen and woman 😋 And she does it again with this new series about delectable ice hockey players. I would recommend reading [b:In Skates Trouble|34114099|In Skates Trouble (Chicago Rebels, #.5)|Kate Meader|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1486223714s/34114099.jpg|55142863] first just to get a taste of what's to come.

Harper Chase's dream is almost in reach. She jumped through hoops and did everything her father wanted but he still controls her from the grave. She is the team owner of the Chicago Rebels but has to share the role with her half-sisters, and that's no easy feat considering they don't know one another. Added to that is the chauvinistic belief of the media and others that women, let alone three of them, know diddly squat about running and managing a pro hockey team. But Harper has a plan. She has, after all, been planning for this her whole life. And what the team needs is experience and someone to bring her band of merry men together so they can find their rhythm and prove to everyone that they're not the second worst team in the NHL. In steps Remy DuPre.

My golly gosh. That man got an automatic membership to my Book Boyfriend Club. His Cajun accent, mouth-watering body, chivalrous ways and charming disposition made me want him all to myself. Now Remy has been dubbed 'Jinx' because he has missed out on the Championship more times than any other and is considered one of the unluckiest players in the NHL. He isn't happy about being traded to the Rebels because this was to be his last year in the league. He and Harper clash from the get go. Harper is a no nonsense woman, who has a plan that will not be messed with. She has also grown up in this testosterone fueled world and won't be bullied by a charming and hot Southern man. Despite them not seeing eye-to-eye on the teams capabilities, the chemistry between the two of them is hard to ignore. Kate Meader really did write some steamy scenes.
SpoilerThe courtyard? My word. The locker room? My god. The snowed in weekend? Hot damn.

The biggest obstacle was Harper herself. She had a lot of issues and felt that she had to prove herself to everyone. It was frustrating at times but also understandable. As for Remy, he really was a pillar of strength. I loved how he was supportive and understanding. He really was one in a million.

I loved the start to this series and cannot wait to delve into the other books.

“You feel that, Harper?”

She snatched back her hand. “If you mean my goodwill evaporating with every second you’re standing here, then, yeah, I feel it.”

“I think we’re havin’ a thing.”

They were. Oh, God, they were.”

I love a good sports romance, especially when its enemies to lovers.
The banter and drama are what I lived for.
However, I would say the drama and banter angst wasn't a lot.
It felt like it was only a few chapters in and then it was sexual tension more like.
I wouldn't mind if there was a bit more angst drama.

I love the dynamic it follows in Harper's life. The plotline of her with her sister, her career, her father and her relationship with having someone to depend on other than herself.
We see a lot of character growth and with her relationship with others that we follow.
I love her scenes with her sisters and wished there were more of them.

Don't get me started on DuPre. That sexy man is a sweetheart I want for myself.
It didn't feel like he has a plotline of his own, as it was more focused on Harper, but his story and his presence bring a lot of growth to the plotline and Harper.

“Isobel arched an eyebrow and nodded in Violet’s direction. “Meet Checks.” Violet thumbed at Isobel. “And my good pal, Balances.”

I swear I read the first couple of chapters of this book before but I just can't remember where.

Clifford Chase, maverick owner of the Chicago Rebels hockey team, was an SOB. After his death, his three daughters from three different women (two wives and a mistress) learn that he has left the Chicago Rebels to them equally. Under the terms of his will the three women must work together to take the team to the playoffs. If they fail then they lose the team.

Clifford's oldest daughter Harper is devastated by the news. She has worked long and hard at the club and truly believed that her father would leave the team to her, she thought he recognised that she had earned it, now she realises that he never considered her to be suitable, even though HE was the one who ran the team into the ground, and that this ludicrous provision in his will was just the icing on the cake.

Harper's only chance of turning the team around is her latest signing, Remy “Jinx” DuPre. He gained the nickname because every team he has been on just failed to win the Stanley Cup, until he left. Harper thinks that Remy has what it takes to lead the team by example and get the players playing cohesively. Remy however has already decided that this is his final year, his final chance at the Stanley Cup and he isn't going to get it with a losing team like the Rebels. He isn't above playing dirty to get what he wants, even if he finds the short, skinny, bossy woman somewhat arousing. Finally they come to a deal. Remy will give 110% to the team for three months IF Harper agrees to trade him to a team that has a shot at the Stanley Cup after that time.

But as the negotiations, threats and blackmailing turn into joking and late night texts things turn warm between Harper and Remy. But can a woman managing an NHL team really have a relationship with one of her players?

I really liked this. Kate Meader has a great way of writing and, if you like hot sexy hockey players then this book is for you. I don't even like the New Orleans accent and I was hooked! Kate Meader also balanced the off-the-charts desire for each other with Harper's obvious and understandable fears about how she would perceived if anyone found out about their relationship, or even their secret agreement.

I'm looking forward to the next book, featuring Harper's sister, a former National Women's Hockey Player for the Buffalo Betties, Isobel Chase.

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

Bumped for release week.

Female empowerment in a male sports world- I’m all in. Loved the start of this new series set around a fictional hockey team in Chicago. Hot hockey players a plenty and witty dialogue made this a quick read.

2.5 read for me. I listened to the audiobook and I didn't like the voice the narrator used for the h but I liked her voice for everything else. I liked Remy but I didn't like Harper, she was supposed to be strong but to me she came off as weak and whiny with whoa is me syndrome. I plan to check out the next book in the series because I liked the other characters.

This was good, not too angsty, fun chemistry between the leads, hockey themed, basically all my favorite things in a romance novel.

So fun and VERY steamy. Definitely looking forward to the next books in this series!

LOVED!!!
