Jordan is a likable person and an entertaining storyteller, so I'm glad I opted for the audio version. I listened in my car whenever I ran errands and it was like having a funny friend gossiping as I drove. The caricature of himself he reveals here is for pure entertainment so it doesn't get terribly deep. Even when he reveals such life-altering tragedies as the violent death of his father or his own struggles with alcoholism, Jordan holds his audience at a safe distance. Consequently, the book is amusing but just on a surface level.

I picked up this book on a whim. I knew of Jordan from some of his work on TV, especially as his character on Will and Grace, which I always found hilarious. I was so surprised by how amazing this book is.
Jordan has crafted a set of essays that celebrate the rich texture of this thing we call life, and he has done so with the craftsmanship of a master writer. If you want to study the craft of how to write compellingly, Jordan's text is a master class.

If you love Leslie Jordan you HAVE to read this book!  I highly recommend the audio as it is read by Mr. Jordan himself.  Gone too soon... the world needed more of him and needs more of him.

Hilarious! What a treat Leslie Jordan was to us all. I listened to this laugh-out-loud charming audiobook and just loved it.

Leslie fills us with stories of his life and career. His ability to make his audience laugh and his self-imposed obligation to protect and defend all that matters most to him is dazzling.
