CHILLS… LITERAL CHILLS!!!.
That plot twist? Left. My. Jaw. On. The. Floor.
OMG. Just give me a few minutes to get myself together
Deep breath
Okay. I’m ready.
As a girlie who occasionally watched Missing on Investigation ID (a show I never loved because of the frustrating lack of closure and justice), this book genuinely scared me in the beginning. But once I started getting to know the characters,I was invested.
Can I just gush over how the author gave each character such a distinct personality?! I loved that.
The pacing? Impeccable. The way all the pieces slowly came together? Genius. And those little nuggets of knowledge about investigations and forensics? I swear I feel smarter now. And that plot twist at the end?! Mind-blowing.
That quote that opens the book
"Evil is unspectacular and always human, and shares our bed and eats at our own table by W. H. Auden" was such a telltale sign of what was coming. But honestly, I just didn’t want to believe it. I guess that’s the whole point, isn’t it?
Do I wish we got more on how things unfolded with the Shoreview Six? Absolutely. And Jane’s fiancé ? Yes please! But again, that’s kind of the beauty of this book.
Because in the context of ambiguous loss, “closure” is a myth. We should not be forced to chase closure but instead find ways to coexist with our complex feelings and to always remember that our reactions are completely normal, not a sign of personal weakness.

3.5 rounded up!
There were a lot of characters and it was hard keeping track of who was who. Great twist at the end!
