3.5 rounded up!
There were a lot of characters and it was hard keeping track of who was who. Great twist at the end!

This is the fifth book I’ve read by Loreth Anne White, and with every one earning a solid 4 to 5 stars, I can confidently say she’s become one of my favorite authors. This story is no exception—it’s compelling, tightly written, and thoroughly engaging. While I enjoyed it very much, I found myself just slightly less captivated compared to some of her other works, particularly *The Maid’s Diary* and *The Swimmer*, which remain my top favorites.

This was a-little underwhelming, as I had high hopes in the first couple of chapters, it started to fall flat. Multiple story POVs that were almost Random, and the ending with no resolution from the fair view 6? Didn’t love how the whole thing was resolved.

Speed read this — super heavy skimming.
There is a trigger warning about generational abuse at the beginning of the book, which I appreciated, but did not fully understand.
There are like 100 different POVs and two timelines which made skimming confusing, but I think even reading every single word would still be confusing with so much going on
Human remains are discovered under the foundations of an old chapel in the woods a decades-old case of a missing local teen is unearthed. Jane Munro is the pregnant homicide cop assigned to the case, which gives her something to concentrate on other than the fact that her boyfriend is missing. The Shoreview Six, a group of friends from school, don’t went the truth to be found. These friends are all now highly respected and affluent members of their communities.
SPOILER : the missing teen was pregnant when she was killed by her mother. The mother killed her because she didn’t want to face the truth that her husband/the teen’s father was abusing her and the baby was his.

A little preachy in the narrative. Also NO ONE talks the way these people do. Interesting plot, though.
