Okay this is going to be a fun review.
This is the second volume of the English translation of detective Conan. the only real difference between this volume and the Japanese version is that the character names for major characters are Americanised (e.g. Ran= Rachel, Shinichi=Jimmy). This volume continues to follow Conan's adventures as he tries to regain his teenage body (Shinichi/ jimmy). the mysteries are still interesting, the characters are still fun and people get suspicious about Conan's true identity.
The cases in this volume are okay. The first two cases were fairly fun. The first case involved a known killer with an alibi trick. This was fun reading since the trick behind the murder is not entirely obvious and i was still trying to work it out right to the start of the big reveal where it got explained. The second case was the first proper black organisation case. the mystery itself was bizarre but towards the end was possible to solve due to hints dropped. This case was made interesting by the fact that we found out a bit more about the villain group as well as helped reinforce how dangerous they were. The third case really dragged the rating down. the mystery itself was pretty obvious from the first chapter and the characters involved just annoyed me.
The characters in this volume are mixed. We have a fair few returning characters from Conan and ran to the men in black. The new characters just didn't work for me. I think they are there so Conan has friends his age but the three of them (genta, mitsuko and ayumi) are all super annoying and just seem to get in the way of most of the other main characters. They also appear quite regularly and the cases they get involved in are usually ridiculous and predictable but on occasion they are not too bad.
Over all a not to bad volume with a few interesting twists. Should be interesting to see where the next volume takes the story and what reveals come next.

Conan goes back to school, 1st grade style. A new clue emerges about the mysterious men in black or are they ? And Conan takes cute to a whole new level.
I don't know how these guys do it. I mean, people are dying left, right, and center and somehow the story still manages to be cute and silly while handling death seriously.
I wish more time could be put into the chapter by chapter cases. They felt a little rushed this volume but that may have been due to me just reading too fast. It just sucks me in! The writers and artist behind everything are just amazing. If only all crime writing was this good!

Di sini kasus-kasusnya udah mulai solid. Total ada 3 kasus, dan semuanya tamat di sini. Sangat satisfying 🥰 (ga suka kalo bersambung2 ke volume berikutnya). Aku udah pernah baca volume ini dulu, tapi lupa ending kasus2nya, jadi tetep tegang bacanya. Iya tegangnya dapet, twist nya okelah.
Di kasus kedua itu rada obvious sihh, ada banyak hal yang salah sejak awal, tapi conan malah biasa-biasa aja. Bahkan dari sisi pembaca non-misteri pun di awal bisa curiga, karena: 1) gak semua keluarga itu akur, bisa aja orang tu kabur karena berbagai alasan yg kompleks. 2) orang bisa aja ngaku dia anak si A, adik si B. kebenarannya? belum tentu, harus dicek dulu kalo mau yakin.

More nostalgia. I showed the page of the hanging guy with the cats around him to my partner, who was horrified that I'd first read this series as a kid, and remember it fondly.
The child gang that Shinichi becomes a part of (kind of against his will) is such a funny concept. This series is honestly keeping my mood a bit up at the moment.
