This book feels like a not-as-good version of Geekerella. The characters all felt cliche and cringy, and it made me feel second-hand embarrassment for them. It has a lot of tropes I like, but they weren't executed as well as I would have liked.

cute but too dramatic for my taste; also cinder doesn’t have a personality

I picked this book up this morning, and finished it by lunch. Such a good fast paced book. I'm currently in the middle of exam season mayhem but this book was a lovely break without taking up valuable revision time!

Thank you to the other for giving me a fast paced story where I still managed to gain a connection with the characters.

This was one of the most enjoyable reads that I’ve read this year! I’ve been dying for a book like this. After books like Anna and the French Kiss and Love & Gelato , it’s been hard for me to find a good, fluffy, contemporary read lately and this was just perfect.

Okay, so not all of it was fluffy, but I kind of (I don’t know if this makes me horrible or not) enjoyed those tragic parts. This book started off horribly depressing but the quote from the beginning completely summed that bit up, “The problem with fairy tales is that most of them begin with tragedy.” It sucked me in within ten pages and I just absolutely LOVED it.

I read Geekerella earlier this year, and can honestly see where that book drew inspiration from in this book. It was almost the exact same story, which made me love this one even more. The characters were much more loveable in this one and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it.

I’m a sucker for fairytale retellings, and this was yet another example of an absolutely BRILLIANT one. Ella was one of the most badass contemporary MC’s I’ve ever come across. She was brilliant, beautiful inside and out, fearless (yet able to admit when she was afraid), and witty and I just loved her so much for being herself no matter what.

Ella honestly got the short end of the stick on so many things, her mother dying, being forced to live across the country with a father who abandoned her and his new family who hated her for seemingly no reason, and ending up crippled from what was already the worst day of her life. But watching her grow over the course of this book was honestly amazing. She grew into an even fiercer, brave woman and it was beautiful to watch.

CINDER. I loved that boy so freaking much. He had an amazing growth over the course of the book as well, and it made me so happy. When everything came to fruition with him, I was swooning alongside Ella and his character is so dynamic. I love that boy so freaking much.

Juliette was another character that I loved the growth of. She came such a long way from the beginning of the book and I can see so much potential in her. She’s a great person who got stuck with the wrong crowd all those years because of her twin sister.

Vivian and her dads I just… GAH! They were some of the most amazing side characters ever and I loved them as soon as they were introduced. Vivian reminded me a bit of Lola from Lola and the Boy Next Door and that was kind of awesome. It was like a new take on an old favorite character.

Rob. He was one of the cutest characters ever and honestly just such a great guy. I had friends like that in high school, and he was just one of those genuine guys, I loved him.

This is one of those contemporary books that I will go back to time and time again and I’m already looking forward to a re-read.

This book was a cheesy take off of Cinderella. I mostly read this because I was interested in the fact that the girl later got injury in the story and was insecure about herself while the man was a movie star playing a prince in his favorite book series turned movie. I only read this because I kind of like retellings of fairy tales as long as they have a twist on them. I was sad on how cheesy the book ended.

Ich liebe dieses Buch einfach. Es ist zum lachen, weinen, grinsen und dabei so authentisch.

Wow. I just... I need a few seconds after finishing that.

This is one of the most powerful books I have ever read. It reduced me to tears not once, not twice but FIVE SEPARATE times during my entire read.

It's the only book that has made me cry and laugh out loud in a span of half an hour. When I picked the book up, I though it would be a light fun read and while the story flows as easy as any beach book I've read, the thoughts, emotions and ideas conveyed are simply astounding.

The heartbreaking moments, the helpless moments, the happy moments, the embarrassing moments; I felt them all. I can't wait to pick up other books from this author.
