a fun read! particularly if youre familiar with league of legends lore. super fast-paced, things are constantly happening which kept me engaged especially towards the end. i think the choice of third person narration really helped make each character feel distinct from one another as the story is told through multiple perspectives.

This was a decent book but some of the decisions made by the characters, especially Kalista, were just not the best. Kalista was too trusting and I understand that since this is a history, the outcome is predetermined but a lot of people had to make some really either stupid, naive, or selfish decisions to make it happen.
Kalista taking Viego to the Blessed Isles after she comes home and sees that the man has destroyed the kingdom and gone insane was ridiculous. Then her not trusting Legros when he warns her about Hecarim. And that's just 2 of the decisions she made that annoyed me.

The phyical hardcover is really pretty which is a plus and their is some great art in the back as well. I would pick up another LoL book but hopefully its better than this one.

DID NOT FINISH: 23%

Likely just not for me. I'm reading the German translation from the library and am short on time with the things I borrowed, so I'm being pretty ruthless dnf-ing it already.

I found the story dry and reading roughly 20%/100+ pages of the book only not to care about any of the characters (they feel flat and bland, if not downright unlikable) makes me think my time is better served with something else.

I get that this is like a villain origin story for one of the League of Legends champions, but I still expected more out of it. The story itself was okay, but it was lacking pretty badly in plot and character development. The characters themselves were very one-dimensional with little to no growth. I didn't really grasp until the very end of the book that it was really about Thresh and the Shadow Isles, because the majority of the book is not about him, and he doesn't really do much to lend to the overall plot or development of the story. As far as being a glorified, dramatized, drawn-out version of a backstory available on the League of Legends wiki, this book succeeded. I would say that is the only aspect this succeeded on, though. Overall, it wasn't terribly written, just not really worth the 400+ pages in my opinion.
