A really solid fantasy novel, I loved it!
I am already familiar with the lore of Runeterra and the characters and event of the Ruination, so nothing was new but it was a lot of fun to dive deep into the characters. Kalista is wonderful and I love her. I wish Viego was more developped though, I think the book would have benefited from a few chapters with his POV.
The middle part of the book is a bit slow, and Reynold's style tends to feel a bit pompous at times, but the way he describes things is really unique, I loved it in the short stories but in a 400 pages book it feels a bit too much at times.
All of the little lore nuggets were wonderful and I love how it explained what the Ruination did on a magical/realm spectrum. The worldbuilding of Camavor is WONDERFUL and discovering this new region was amazing.
Ledros is best boy.
Fuck Grael.

yeah this book was cool asf. had lesbians, forbidden romance and a sick female lead that didn’t need any help from anyone, she just did everything herself. highly suggest if you are interested in the League of Legends lore :)

I'm a passive LoL fan, just dipping in to see the cool stories and characters. And this story did a great job diving into an interesting backstory. You could read it and enjoy it as a non fan. But the real joy comes from seeing past versions of characters and seeing how they progress and end up the way they do. I do wish that some characters got a bit more characterization and depth, but overall super enjoyable.
2.5 stars.
Yeah, I liked it. It has good worldbuilding and it's overall a good story.
I could have done with a lot less exclamation points: the dialogues were particularly painful. Every! statement! had! to be! emphasized! with a fucking! exclamation point! It felt like reading a middle grade book.
I could have done with a lot less conveniences
I'm exhausted.

Grael happened to get promoted just at the right time when Kal happened to be making a trip to the Blessed Isles to find the healing waters. Grael also, thanks to that very convenient promotion, happened to stumble upon a 100 years old corpse that's been left forgotten in an underground room that no one conveniently visited, who happened to have the key to the well on him...and of course, being the conveniently brilliant student that he was, Grael took zero time to figure out what that key opened and where the well was.I'm exhausted.

The entire book was a build-up to a very rushed and underdeveloped ending that requires game knowledge to appreciate.
The full cast audiobook was cool.
