This short story's plot line is similar to many others: girl has lifelong crush on best friend's older brother and he finally notices her when she's all grown up. Unfortunately, the story is too short for any character development and it's unconvincing. Both characters are two dimensional. This story is an okay escape for a couple of hours - less time if you find yourself skipping pages like I did. Thankful this was a freebie on amazon.

Previše kratka priča koja je imala dosta potencijala. Mislim da je autorka trebala da napiše još par strana, nekako je sve zbrzano, ali slatko.

Not much conflict in a short read...

I'm not a fan of novellas; they're so bare-bones. I don't know how this story slipped by when I was downloading. It's a nice enough little story for a novella.

Not my cup of tea. The only way I would have liked it less is if it were longer.

I liked Charlotte. She had a goal. She had transformed herself in pursuit of that goal.

I thought that Alex was a bit full of himself. "Every young lady will be after me because I am a duke." What upset me was that he had sex and thought that he could worry about consequences the next day. Given that the Pill wasn't around at that time, consequences could have been very severe for the woman. I am sure that there were men with such a cavalier attitude, but that is not a hero to me.

3.5 Stars. (Seriously, Goodreads. You need to add the ability to give half stars already!)

Hero: 7/10
Heroine: 2/10
Sizzle: 7/10
Romance: 5/10
Humor: 0/10
Secondary Characters: 1/10
End: 5/10
Pace: 10/10

This wasn't a bad little novella/prequel. I enjoyed the read well enough even if it is a bit predictable. The writing was good, despite a lot of typos. I understood what was meant. The pace was great, exactly what I was looking for in length and story progression. Although, the end was a bit too rushed for me. The characters didn't have much depth to them, but of the 2 leads, Alex was my favorite. Charlotte played too many games and lacked basic communication skills for my tastes.

I think this was a good lead into the Landing A Lord series. I look forward to reading the first book and seeing if it's a series I want to stick with. As for a recommendation, I say if you've never read this author before, this is a decent book to start with. I picked it up when it was free, and it was a quick read… I'm satisfied.

This was a very quick, almost cute read.

Admittedly, I do find the 'both parties want each other and are determined to hide it' cliche rather tiresome (sadly, since I have a deep love of mutual pining as a trope in general. . .), that is largely due to far too many times reading it and reading it done poorly.

This is short enough that there is little time to become truly frustrated with the device, although it is also short enough that it feels a little rushed. In particular there is one place that feels like it needed another chapter - a short one, but still, more than there was. The developments felt they came too quickly just there, for me.

Still, it was a nice bit of not-too-complicated romance for a quick read, and I enjoyed it. Charlotte's thoughts on dealing with the Season and society are amusing - and also easily identified with - and Alex's occasionally prompted eye-rolling, but in a very . . . 'oh, men' kind of way, if that makes sense.

An acceptable, amusing sort of silliness to his thoughts. I almost wish we had gotten to see more of Lucy, who seemed interesting from the little we saw of her, but then again, I know this is sort of a prologue to the series proper, so perhaps Lucy has her own book waiting.

Quick, sweet story, but not much happens. I will probably check out a full novel in the Landing a Lord series at one point, though.

Read this for the #COYER 3 Historical Romances in 3 Weeks mini-challenge.
