Dare You To Hate Me

Emotional, passionate, and angst with a bit of sports and delicious foods sprinkled in.

The emotions suck you in. The characters have an amazing depth. They play off each other so well. Loved the sass. Flashbacks well balanced and seamlessly placed in the story. Moves forward and takes you for a wild ride.

OMG! What a beautiful pice of work this story is. I was completely captivated from the very beginning. I couldn’t put it down and wanted to know everything. The story flowed easily like water and had me mesmerized.

Ivy’s strength and courage was commendable and inspiring. Feeling like a disappointment and being verbally told your not good enough can be degrading and emotionally traumatizing. Thinking she was better on her own than with the people who were supposed to love her, changes her life. For the better, maybe not. But when you can only rely on yourself, you lose trust in others.

Aiden is the just absolutely one of my favorite characters. His devotion to his passion and ability to be emotionally in touch with his feelings was such a joy to read. His way of knowing and doing what is right rather than whats easy was refreshing. The vulnerability he had and shared just made him more relatable and someone you would want in real life.

Their friendship was one of the best things I’ve read. The ease of how they could talk to each other and trust they once had in each other was beautiful. Even though they were separated for a few years, it didn’t stop the connection. The moment they’re together alone for the first time at the college, I about lost my mind. Talk about feeling flustered, their cemetery was absolute fire. Aiden being her rock in so many ways without knowing everything just cements how strong their connection is.

Ivy’s past and everything she went through about brought me to tears. Her story is a tough one to read, but needs to be talked about and normalized more. Most of the time, YOU are your worst enemy. And when you have people in your life who are negative and are miserable as well, the cycle never breaks. Unless you do it yourself. But that’s only half the battle. Getting help is another thing entirely. Her strength in trying to mend some of her broken relationships just shows how powerful you can be by not letting the demons win.

I absolutely loved their story and the relationships Ivy developed along the way when she opened herself up. She surrounded herself with people who love and put good energy in the world instead of hate. Positive thoughts are so important but sometimes hard to come by. Though this story has a happy ending, not all do. But there is hope out there, and life is beautiful when you see it through another perspective.

This book was kind of a mess. You just get throw into a story that looks like you are already supposed to know. A lot of the convos and plot lines were super messy and they didn't really followed a line. They just felt like they needed more structure. The characters would say something that seem important and then that would never be revisit again.
The couple was cute tho.

Dare You To Hate Me was an emotional journey through my own self-reflection with issues I’ve dealt with in the past and an amazingly well written story about the lives of Ivy and Aiden and everyone else in their lives. I’m not even sure where to start as this story was complex and emotional in so many ways that I needed to take some time to reflect on what I had read. I actually finished it almost a week ago and am just now sitting down to try and capture all my thoughts.

Ivy was the perfect main character because she symbolizes a very common person in our world today that no one wants to talk about.

She symbolizes those that suffer from ideas and actions of self-harm as an outlet to release the pain they feel inside. Celeste does a phenomenal job of representing these challenging issues and giving them the seriousness and credit they’re due. Specifically, from the characters vantage point of what drives them to do those kinds of things. Then you pair that with Ivy’s unique back story and character development and you have an all-out home run character.

Now for the male main character, Aiden, he’s a star football player and really is the main driver of this being a sports romance rather than a contemporary romance or new adult.

Anyone that reads this story will tell you how different it is from other sports romance stories because it actually incorporates sports.

I mean… it actually includes a lot of sports references including the team mates, the coach and playing the aforementioned sport. Which, if you’re in touch with the sub-genre communities, is a bit lacking in this department. Aiden is an amazing person all around though, not only is he the star athlete in this story, but he cares deeply about people. His team mates, his family and of course – Ivy.

Now take all those dynamics and wrap them up into a one-of-a-kind story that incorporates sports, family issues, self-harm and fated love and you’ve got the makings of one of my top reads this year already with Dare You To Hate Me.

I really enjoyed this book! I fell in love with the main characters and their personality. Ivy is a sassy bitch and knows how to handle herself and won’t let anyone talk shit about her. And I loved how protective Aiden and caring he was of her. He was always looking out for her and they made the cutest couple.

This book dealt with heavy and serious topics such as self harm and suicide thoughts and it was executed beautifully. However I would not have of minded if it delves more into that side of things such as showing the emotional battle self harm is and how difficult it is to overcome. But then again, I understand why it wasn’t.

This is a sports romance of football and I loved that it included many games and the future of Aiden and how talented he is.

I have no doubt that loads of people will enjoy this book once it has released!

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review :)

I quite enjoyed this book, although it was sad at times. When Ivy was reunited late in the story with
Spoilerher parents, I felt like she was too forgiving too quickly, and also seemed to take all the blame herself. She apologised when they hadn't yet done so.
That didn't really sit too well with me, but I guess she just wanted things resolved as quickly as possible or something. Maybe I just felt like the "big showdown" wasn't really as big or showdowny as I might've expected, after waiting for it the whole book.

I liked the story and was pretty much happy with how things ended up, but am not sure I'll re-read the book in future (I am a re-reader of my faves, so having the urge to re-read is for me a mark of a book that I truly adored).
