“I dare you to hate me, Ivy. Because we both know you don’t. You couldn’t even if you tried.”

Dare You To Hate Me grabbed ahold of my heart from the start. It’s a book bursting with emotion and a friends to lovers romance that pulls on the heartstrings.

Aiden was a unique take on the “well known around campus football player” type of character. He was always compassionate and patient with Ivy and the circumstances she fought to overcome. Someone who was consistently in her corner only wanting her to be happy.

My heart went out to Ivy. She had a tough childhood and dealt with some sensitive situations because of it, but the most important thing is, is she has the spirit of a fighter. A character that does everything to set out to accomplish the goals and dreams she has.

The friends to lovers trope is one I’m super selective with reading, but I can honestly say this one sits on the short exclusive list of favorites. I loved the push and pull between Ivy and Aiden, their connection, and the searing burn of their romance. Also, please note that this book does touch on the subject of self-harm. It doesn’t go into detail, but it could be triggering to some readers.

i was more invested in her relationship with her family than with aiden. honestly, didnt give a shit abt the romance and only stayed because of DJ (loml <3333). it felt like i was waiting for a ball to drop, like i was waiting for some epic climactic moment, but it didnt happen.
that being said, i lovedd ivy's character. she was a very complex character and all the things she went thru and how she dealt with it was written in such an authentic way.
and i've got to hand it to aiden, he was very sweet and respectable. not the arrogant asshole i expected him to be, so that was nice.

overall, 3.5 stars. it was a good book but lacked tension.
