This book is not my favorite book I ever read. It doesn't even come close. I did enjoy it though. This is the only book I read out of the Twilight series I liked and the only one I finished.
This book is about a girl in high school, Bella who moves to Forks, Washington to live with her dad while her Mom goes off to baseball games all around the US with her step dad. Bella hates living there since there is nothing to do there. I know for a fact there is nothing there since I drove through there before.
Anyways back to the plot. She meets a mysterious guy whom she finds attractive and eventually falls in love with. (Its a love story, no spoilers there.) And for whatever reason if you did not already know, SPOILER, the guy is a vampire BUT not any ordinary vampire like Dracula, Lestat, Angel, or pretty much any other vampire in the world. But I won't spoil anymore for of the story for you.
Overall I don't think the story is all that great. It is predictable. There is a little bit of action in the story BUT Bella is unconscious for it so you have to use you imagination for it.
It is the best Twilight story by far. I can only recommend this one book out of the entire series because I hated the rest but I do highly recommend this to teenage girls who wants a high school romance about vampires. If you are a guy, I CANNOT recommend this to you, instead read, Cirque Du Freak and Saga of Lartan Crepsley both by Darren Shan.
P.S. I hated the movie that was based on this book, so I would recommend skipping it all together.

Okay, this review is going to be controversial. I liked the movie better than the book, actually. I think the rival vampire storyline should have been extended and occurred sooner - and with the fight scene. I did think the book was better about flushing out the Cullen family, and Jasper was way more interesting than in the movie (where he's kind of weird). Still, the biggest drawback for me was the constant gushing by Bella about Edward's beauty. In the end, though, I like the story, and I will be reading the rest.

I felt compelled to read 'Twlilight' this summer when I worked as a camp counselor, because so many of my campers were reading it (as well as a great deal of the 16-year-old counselors in training). I'll admit that when I started to read it, I literally could not put it down, and I'm not really sure why. It's not very well written; Meyer uses the same tired cliches over and over again throughout the book (and the series), but there is something strangely gripping about a high-school romance between a vampire and a mortal. I wish I could figure out why, really I do, but all I know is that it is a series that is VERY easy to get sucked into...you've been warned.
I typically try NOT to read the current craze sweeping the nation. Unless it's already been out for at least a decade and I've already read it a million times before it gains momentum. THEN I will acknowledge it (including several "I told you it was good!"'s thrown in for good measure).
The only thing I can compare this to is the Harry Potter series. Harry Potter and now Twilight are the first times I've seriously, actively resisted the current culture's favorite thing for right this second. After having the plot and characters of Twilight literally thrown in my face several times over the last week, I figured it was worth a shot. In addition, I was going to be stuck in an airport for more than 5 hours, and I had less than 50 pages left in the novel I had brought with me. So I broke down and bought Twilight. On Friday evening. It's now Sunday. I've already loaned it out to one of my good friends who has NOT yet read it, with the command to read it. Read it NOW. =)
Normally, I'm not a big fan of the vampire genre. At all - I cannot stand anything to do with vampires, and as such have shied away from all literature that features them as main characters. However, I must echo what I've heard many times now online and from other fans of Twilight: I love ... L-O-V-E ... this book. I'm shocked that I loaned it away already, and I cannot wait to use my B&N giftcard I've been saving since my birthday to go pick up books 2 & 3. I may just stand in line for 4, as well....
I won't go over the storyline, since it has already been hashed and rehashed online a million times. Suffice it to say that this book has shattered my preconceived notion of the vampire genre, and has me literally thirsting for more.
