I’ve read almost everything McManus has put out, and after One of Us is Lying, this one is my favorite. After a silly mistake leads to an embarrassing result, Brynn’s life seems off kilter. Her almost guaranteed early acceptance to Northwestern turns into a waitlist once her name gets splashed all over Buzzfeed. To add salt to the wound, Brynn’s dad relocates their family due to his job, and she’s back at her previous school where she was ostracized. But being back home renews her interest in the death of her former teacher.
There are lots of twists and turns. I could predict a lot of them, but there were some pleasant surprises, too. Everything felt believable, there are good moments of suspense, there’s a little teenage romance, and of course lots of faux forensics.
Karen McManus wins me over again and again. If she writes it, I’ll read it.

After loving KMM's first three books, I thought I was a huge fan. The next two? Huge disappointments. They weren't bad books, just mediocre for the genre and I really was rethinking my love for KMM.
WELL BOY WAS THIS ONE A SURPRISE. I loved this. Loved the characters, loved the two POVs, loved the little bit of romance, loved the mysteries. Most of these twists I really didn't see coming at all. Especially the reveal in the epilogue. This one also gave me some AGGGTM vibes with the true crime focus, a HUGE plus. Also this brought back the school setting that I was missing from the previous two books, and I think that might be why they weren't for me....?
