I found this book a little hard to get into after TCOO, but it is more world building, and building into the war. It got really exciting halfway through, and I could not put it down!!
Can't wait for book 3!!!
Can't wait for book 3!!!
*I received a free arc, spoilers below*
I love this story so much. I love Ophelia, I love how flawed she is - like trust, she is flawed but means well.
Nicole does such an amazing job of making you both hate and empathize with characters at the same time. The duel POV from first-person works perfectly.
I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about a friends to lovers trope, but I lovedddd it. How can you not love him??
There’s also a formality to Nicole’s writing and it places itself perfectly into this world. It helps immerse me into the story by making the characters more formal themselves. They aren’t civilians, they’re powerful leaders in their communities and were born knowing this, so to me it really emphasizes their status just by how they think and talk.
Overall loved this book and am really curious how the story will go! Lots of twists that I don’t see coming. So truly will be a surprise!

Wow. Just wow. Here I am, just barely 2 days after finishing The Curse of Ophelia and I sit, just staring at my fire. I think this may be one of the best love stories I’ve ever read. And not because it’s sweet or flawless or full of morally grey or even Prince Charming. So, how then, you ask? Because it’s REAL. It’s what REAL looks like. It’s raw and broken and fallible and selfish and yet selfless and joy filled despite the hardship. It’s a CHOICE. It’s not magic. It’s hard decisions and humility and hard
4.5⭐️!!
I honestly found the second book of this series to be better than the first! The character growth Ophelia had in this book was so good. She came off naive and whiny to me in the first
book, but she really grew in this one. This book gave me answers to so many questions I had, but left me needing more! I will be impatiently waiting for The Trials of Ophelia

This is the second book in a new adult romantasy series, The Curse of Ophelia. Book two picks up after the end of book one as Ophelia struggles with becoming the Revered, the curse, and her relationship with Malakai. Tropes include stabby warrior FMC, love triangle, found family, and prophecies.
The Lovely: The dynamics between the characters really had me hitting all the feelings in this book. So much raw, powerful emotion. For example, one character can be a bit of a jerk but I still hurt for him because the author showed you WHY he was having those feelings. Beautiful.
The Mundane: At times the pacing of this book felt slow and/or stunted, like it just couldn’t get moving. This seemed to happened the most when the characters were trying to figure out what to do, rather than actually doing anything. These scenes also tended to have a lot of drawn out internal monologue which I think also contributed to the pace feeling slow.
Rating: 4/5 Stars 2/5 Flames
Recommendation: I actually loved this second book much more than the first. I felt like issues got a lot harder and messier for the characters to handle. Chapter 20 made me cry. The ending made me cry. This book definitely hits you in the feels - way more than the first book. If you like new adult romantasy with amazing side characters, a love story and prophecies, I think you would like this book.
