DNF at 40%. Almost halfway through the book and I'm just bored and find myself not wanting to pick it up. I really wanted to get into this series, but it's gonna be a no from me.

DNF This book was unbearably boring. A flood of characters was introduced, making it feel overwhelmingly "info-dumpy." Keeping track of everything would’ve required taking notes, which only added to the frustration. The story didn’t flow well, and the characters’ backgrounds felt random and disjointed. I wanted so badly to love this series, but I just couldn’t push through and had to DNF.

3.5 but rounding up!

I think this book was really well written, especially how the author is able to portray healing from wounds that may not be visible.

My only gripe is that I feel like the first 50% of the book was kind of slow. I didn’t feel as captivated by the story and found myself putting it down quite a bit.

Then a new love interest is introduced but is immediately captured, then when they’re finally reunited they immediately get separated again. There’s a lot of weight on “he’s always there when I need him” but he is absent for a lot of the really heavy parts of the book. I understand that this was done to add a level of danger/anticipation but it just felt kind of rushed.

I think the plot is really interesting and am definitely enjoying it, and plan to continue the series, but didn’t feel hooked by any sort of cliffhanger that would have me anticipating the next book.

4 stars ✨

This was a decent follow up to book one. It took me a little while to get into it, but once I was in, I was in.

The world building and the development of the magic system was a lot better and had a lot more depth in this instalment. I really enjoyed the rescue mission that Ophelia went on, and I hope we see more of Lancaster and the fae in the remainder of the series.

I am a little torn on how I feel about the current romance though maybe my mind will change in the next book.

Onto book three! :)

This book had a hold on me the whole time.

I had so many theories and spirals. Because Nicole kept me on my toes and made me work for it.

I love Ophelia. She is so fierce and will do anything to protect the ones she love.

Again, the found family in this series is unmatched. I love all the different dynamics within it.

I had some big feelings about the love interest. I'm so thrilled when we found out the truth. But all I can say is thank the feckin angels!
