WOW. I loved this book. It really showed love and loss and PTSD and how to heal your mental wounds so well. I fall more in love with the core group of characters more and more and now with new characters I’m even more excited for the next book. I can’t wait to learn more about Jez and Toleks sister and Mila. I cried with Ophelia and Malakai during their realization. I’ve never loved Tolek more and I seriously cannot with the ending. Ugh such a good cliff hanger I’m about to dive into the next book and impatiently wait for book 3.5 and 4 to come out this year!!

Reread: LOVE. I know this is going to be my 2nd favorite epic romantasy of all time (the series as a whole). It was a little slow near the beginning but picks up quick and it’s a damn good time.

Ophelia and the gang are settling in the revereds quarters in the mountains. After licidious’ death, Ophelia needs to prove she is fit to lead the mystique warriors clan to the others clans (see review on book 1). Meanwhile she also is at war with the grachian queen, Kakias. We meet new characters (see below). There is a kidnapping, a betrayal, a few fights to get the kidnapped, then a huge war at the end, ending in death, a coma, prisoner, and a new quest.

New characters: Lryia (Toleks older sister), Mila (warrior/friends with Lryia), Barrett (Queen Kakias son/ half-brother of Malakai), Dax (Brent’s partner), Vale (Titus -seawatch chancellor- his apprentice), Esmond (apprentice to Bridgiet bodymelder chancellor), Erista (apprentice to Meridat soulguider chancellor) (Ezalia seawatcher chancellor -Airid mindshaper chancellor)

- found family
- many fights and battles
- betrayals
- lots of trying to connect the dots
- end of an old romance
- new romances sprouting
- spice 🌶️

What an amazing second book in a series! I am an absolute sucker for some political intrigue & this book delivered this perfectly! Also, Tolek has my heart forever. Literally all the heart eyes for his overly protective, goofy, cinnamon roll self!

I enjoyed the book and loved Ophelia and Tolek together but I just felt like the pacing was off at the end and some parts just didn’t make sense like with Vale and that whole part with her visions?? What did we learn from that? And even with Tolek getting injured and him being randomly back at the infirmary with no explanation about what happened?? And then with the villain just vanishing??  It just seemed some things were wrapped up too quick with no explanation. Overall I liked the story though and will continue the series.
