Death is the biggest character that I've read about in the longest time, and the Discworld is always full of surprises.

It's a novel with Death dressed up as Santa and distributing gifts around the world. Of course, I loved it even before I read it only for the premise itself. But after reading it, I regret not reading it during the Christmas week because this would have been an even better reading experience.

In typical Pratchett style, an absurd premise lays the foundation for some really heartfelt conversations on the nature of beliefs and what makes us US. One of my all time favourite Pratchett quotes is from this book:

This year I'm going to make a serious dent on my Discworld re-read mission!

Another excellent instalment with Death. He is as lovable as ever in the Hogfather. Sian Clifford is such a brilliant reader for the audiobooks.

Okay... here is my gripe with the Death collection... It does not have enough Death in it.

The stories kinda feel repetitive and Death always takes a back seat to the other characters. There was some great moments in the book but eh, mostly it was a bit dull to me.

Entertaining but nothing to write home about sadly.

I love watching the two part TV series version of this and had high expectations which were more than surpassed by the book itself. Pratchett pulls together so many different beliefs and traditions from so many holidays and weaves them into a superb tale where Death delivers presents and the Tooth Fairy is a franchise run by a very unlikely being. The writing is as enjoyable as ever and the wit and general commentary is of course superb. What more can one say other than HO HO HO.
