This was really gripping and intriguing. I thought it was going one way and then it flipped and went a new way. I can't wait to read book 2. The growth and character development was great. I am so invested. And the slow burn is sooooo slow. But burning!!!

3.5; decent read. I wasn’t super into it until the end that might just be because I don’t typically read sci-fi dystopian stuff. I loved the plot twist though. I think I might have liked the book more if it was in first person.

Yeah. First 1⭐️ of the year, and 2nd in my whole life. I think my tastes become sharper and sharper by the time…

I didn’t like it but it was a good idea though.

There was a lot of inconsistencies, I didn’t get attached to the characters which is SUPER rare, I actually HATED Khalani. The girl don’t control herself, like never, it feels like she’s very dumb most of the time, and she’s depicted like a sensitive, fragile, little girl. Plus we don’t know a thing about her childhood except vaguely before she was 8y old. Then we have nothing about it (Does she got into a foster center? Foster family? What and how her life was before prison?).

Plus, she don’t know how to fight but she goes into one multiple times without thinking, even though she doesn’t want to die. I don’t know how to explain this because in certain circumstances it is okay but like how it was done felt weird. She is always crying and putting herself down, it feels her character don’t really grow, it’s exhausting.

Her relationship with Takeshi felts soooo rushed, almost every interaction with each other made cringe. Every things he said ew. It didn’t feel right, it wasn’t subtle, I didn’t like their chemistry & relationship.

I feel like there wasn’t really a plot. Like nothing surprised me, but it might be because I wasn’t that into the story.

And finally the poetry. I love some poetic fantasy/dystopian book but at first I loved it like I almost highlighted every time I turned a page, but by the 1/3 of the book it felt forced, it was too much.

So yeah, it wasn’t for me, but I hate not knowing the end of a book, even one I don’t like, so I finished it anyway. I don’t think I’m gonna read the second book.
