I was entertained enough to finish the book, but there were some aspects that just didn’t work for me. The poetry I could have done without and I just didn’t believe the romance. The writing was ok, but it just felt a little forced. So many unnecessary metaphors and similes.

I liked the premise of this book.
I would have liked a bit more of the world as I found it interesting. I’m hoping the next book reveals more backstory.  I might pick up the next one
because the last bit about the robot was just too random and I feel like I need to know where this is going. It would make more sense if robots or some kind of animatronics were mentioned anywhere else in the book, but nope a random robot at the end.
I just don’t think I’ll be picking it up any time soon.

Kept me up until 3am on a Wednesday. The ending honestly shocked me and it‘s only a duology. Since onyx storm, the first true 5 star romantasy book, didnt expect that from a distopian book

2.5 ⭐️

It was a solid book. There were some nice quotes. I have to say I wasn’t really invested in their story or in the characters, so the development of their relationship or of the story wasn’t very exciting for me, but it was kind of an interesting read still.

I also thought she had more chemistry with the General lol

And I also think this would have been a good second book of the series after learning more about the world, about the characters. I just think it would be more suitable, if this book would be the second idk it would have just made it more emotional for me as a reader to first get to know their lives first.

This book wasn’t perfect by any long shot, truthfully, no book will ever be, as people will always have something negative to say, which is completely normal. There’s nothing, not a single book, that is universally loved with not a single harsh review, it’s just not possible.

Possible spoilers, ig?

So yes, the book wasn’t the best in the world, but it was pretty amazing to me, and while I agree with a lot of the less positive reviews, the issues didn’t make me dislike the book, not even a smidge.

Did Takeshi being lenient in things with Khalani make zero sense, when he’s supposedly this feared individual? Yes and no. While I understand his position is meant to instill fear, and he’s suppose to be a formidable figure, he’s also just a human with feelings he’s unsure how to navigate, as majority of young people can relate with.

Takeshi was sent through a loop with Khalani’s sudden presence; she was an obstacle he wasn’t prepared for, hence his questionable actions. He’s not suppose to know what to do, when this isn’t something he’s ever likely experienced.

As for Khalani; she made MANY questionable choices, ones I found myself sighing and walking away from the book for several moments, but we have to put ourselves in her shoes; she lost everything as a child, had to raise herself practically. Her decisions, the things she chooses to do, is based on what her parents taught her; kindness, while not always appreciated or accepted in moments, does have its affect on others, even if it takes a bit of time.

She got tossed in there for something so minor, so unnecessary. How was she suppose to act? Like she belonged there? Like she knew how everything worked despite it being entirely new to her?

Many might think of her as dumb and naive, which yes, can be true, but I view her as a girl who’s just trying to not let the world around her beat her down, attempting to leave her a empty shell.

So while you can say “why tf did she do that? She’s so stupid.” Well, yeah. You want her to be some emotionless criminal, hardened by the cruelties of the world? Not possible. I think the author did a pretty good job at portraying a young adult just trying to not get snuffed out like everyone before her.

OKAY WE HAVE SPOILERS FOR SURE BEYODN THIS POINT!!!

I do have one thing to say though. I laughed so hard when ‘hopelessly devoted to you’ lyrics showed up
