I don’t usually love prisoner books as I think it’s boring to be stuck in one place. But this book absolutely exceed my expectations! I thought the characters were interesting and the world building was decent.

I really loved this book! There were some really amazing quotes that I loved. One that I really liked was "But she ignored the obvious red flags and insisted they were a deep shade of orange." That line specifically hit me, because it was so relatable. And it was written beautifully, like a lot of the writing in the book.
Another quote that I liked was "“Sweet girl, the purpose is about life.” Winnie’s raised her hands in emphasis. “These books aren’t meant to train or give a history lesson. They are meant to stir the mind and the soul. To immerse you in the wonders and hardships of love, the most powerful force in the universe,”". It really hit for me because sometimes I feel guilty that I just read books for fun, and this was really validating.
I really enjoyed the main character. She was relatable, and I enjoyed seeing her arc throughout the book.
I also really enjoyed the found family trope that began to develop! I'm such a sucker for it.
The setting of the prison was interesting and different, and while some elements were very predictable, it didn't make them less enjoyable.

Oh das war spannend. Das ende und der plottwist! Und fands auch gut und realistisch, dass immer mal wieder paar wochen vergangen sind und nicht alles in zwei wochen passiert ist. Found family richtig gut - winnie, mein herz - und takeshi hot.
This guard wasn’t pretty or even handsome. Those were too feeble terms. He was a disaster you couldn’t tear your focus away from. He was the unmoving calm while you lean on the precipice of death. /17
Her blood boiled. There were only so many times that her life could be threatened in one day before she snapped. “I’d tell you how I really feel about your so-called games, but I wasn’t born with enough middle fingers to express myself,” Khalani snarled, ending all pretense of civility. /66
“Do you want to know why Winnie still smiles and keeps going?” Khalani nodded, her chest rising with shallow breaths. “Because the dead don’t want you to die with them,” Winnie stated. “Love transcends space and time. It holds no bounds or limits. Dear girl, love is stronger than death because if you love someone, they can never truly die. Sarah lives on. In me. And your parents live on in you, too.” /122
To love is to go on. /124
“You should prepare yourself for disappointment because I’m going to prove you wrong at every turn,” she panted. “Good.” His eyes lit with molten fire. “I haven’t even tried making you beg yet.” /137
Beware the woman scorned. She was more dangerous than any nuclear bomb. /153
“Kanes, you better not die tomorrow. I’ll only allow it when you can beat me in a fight.” The intensity in his expression stole her breath. “I doubt that would happen anytime soon,” she joked. “Possibly never.” “Exactly.” /160
Her lids slowly began to close, and the last thing she remembered was Takeshi’s black eyes gazing down at her with concern, tenderness, and a depth of angry passion that rivaled every story that’d been written and song that’d been sung. /194
Takeshi put his arms by his side, still lying on top of the covers. Then slowly, like there was static electricity trickling up the side of her body, his pinky grazed hers. And stayed there. She didn’t remember what purpose her pinky ever served before it was touched by his. /207
“And if you don’t want this to happen again, I understand and will keep my distance. But if you do, it’s not over for me. To be honest… I might never be over you.” /244
Ruin never looked so beautiful. /298
