I would have eaten this up as a teenager. It was an enjoyable, quick read that had me wanting to turn the page to see what happens next. I found it hard to picture the setting of this book - underground but I imagine high tech? I kept picturing a high tech jail and then realising it was essentially a cave with dirt floors. That’s probably my fault rather than poor writing though!

It went a little slow, which brought the rating down. I do like the sci-fi element of it, and the whole set up. Its well written. Its set in Arizona, but you don't know that until they leave.

Felt like there were some loose ends, but can’t wait to read the second!
