I picked up and put down this book multiple times in the last few months. I wanted to like it so much! And I love a good duology. It had a great premise and the writing was lovely. But lord almighty was it a snooze fest for like the first 65%. The stops and starts were doing me in. I wanted to be invested in Khalani and Takeshi but honestly their chemistry was kinda meh. The side characters were flat and the story kinda bounced around. I guessed the big twist at the end like 100 pages before it happened. I want to read the second book because I’m hoping the momentum keeps going but may need a palette cleanser in between

DNF - I read 17 pages of this drivel. Really don’t see the hype. Every other word is a descriptive adjective, the writing does not flow and the MFC did not interest me at all. Money wasted on this crap.
