Lots of child rape and grooming. Just couldn’t stomach it. I think if Anne had just made the characters adults instead of children, I would be more interested because it is spicy. There were just several references to the slaves being 15 or 16, which would track for the era of the story, but for current culture is just horrible.
Graphic: Sexual assault, Rape, Sexual content, Slavery, Sexual violence, Adult/minor relationship, and Pedophilia
Moderate: Child abuse, Confinement, Kidnapping, Body shaming, Misogyny, Bullying, and Emotional abuse

I remember reading this in middle school when I wasn't suppose to and I thought I would give it another go but I just can't finish it. It's honestly terrible experiencing the second time around...I wasn't aware that Beauty is only 15 in the story but as soon as she started describing minors in very explicit positions and their bodies...it was a nope for me. Also this goes beyond BDSM....this is just pure torture and abuse.
Honestly if you are just into rough sex with no feelings, outdated sexual language, not consenting partners, a huge spanking kink, and other torture kinks, etc. And can make it past minors being sex slaves...then sure I guess this book may be your thing.

The most engaging element of this trilogy was the author's preface.
Maybe this was super exciting stuff for readers in 1985?
And listen, if someone is happy with a book, that's great for them.
But my god, this is awful.
I finished it because I'm not a quitter. But damn, I wouldn't wish that experience on anyone. Blegh
Possibly the single enjoyable thing to come from this series is the number of reviews by straight men needing to publicly declare that they weren't into the gay parts.

The most intense, well written erotica published. There is absolutely no other author that dares to allow her fantasies full reign the way Anne does. It is so unfortunate to think that there are but three books in a category all their own, and of the same author. It has been years since Ms. Rice has penned these, and yet it is clear that she has blazed a trail that no one might follow, but that we wish someone would.

Can I just love every book I read? I have never regretted sticking with a book until the end. That is, of course, a general statement as there was no coaxing I had to do to myself to keep me wanting to read these novels.

The concept of this book is very interesting, and it's intensely creative and well thought-out. I didn't enjoy the writing style very much, and there weren't many of the characters that I felt any sort of attachment too. The idea is so fascinating, though, that I will probably get the next book in the series.

Mrs rice never disappoints. I read when I was younger. Still is amazing as it was 20 years ago!

While a kink is a kink, there's nothing sexy about rape. In any form. Furthermore, there wasn't much of a development in the characters or in the story. I'm a fan of Anne Rice, I consumed her Vampire Series and her Witch Trilogy as a teen with a fervor. This left me wishing I had a bar of soap in my eyes.
