Warning: these books are erotica. If you can't handle the 50 Shades of Grey series, then don't bother reading these, because these are 300x worse.

All in all, it was a good book. I thought that parts of it were kind of rushed, like the ending, but that's ok.

Let me just say this: I read this series when I was about 18 years old and going through an "Anne Rice stage" that all teenage girls seemed to go through in the 90s. I had NO idea what I was getting myself into...

Well, it's definitely an interesting series. I remember being equally horrified and intrigued by it. While I wasn't offended by the content of the books, I was definitely disappointed with the writing and storyline - it's disjointed and, honestly, very sloppy.

The series is obviously not for the easily offended or uptight. And, even though I haven't read it in over XX years, I don't really see any reason to revisit it. But, if you like Anne Rice's style and want to just read a book full of "shock value," well then...enjoy.

This books series is unique in it's content. As a reader I will endeavor to give my thoughts on the series based on how I felt when I read the books. One thing I will note is that I am a life long fan of Anne's work. In many ways I would call her a pioneer within her genres in fiction. Now, let's get into the nitty gritty shall we?

I love a good twist on fairy tales. Something about the unique perspective of a writer is fascinating to me, but I would say that this series is probably the most twisted one that I have read. Anne creates a fantasy underground world that feeds on carnal desires and it is immersive from the very beginning to the end in Anne's usual fashion of sensational delights.

This series is not meant for young readers, but is a delight to its adult audience.

Enjoy

The third book is absolutely my favorite of the three. I find the perspective from Laurent both different and interesting.

Basically some extremely boring erotica. I do like the attempt to graft it to the Sleeping Beauty tale, it's an interesting take. But generally not very interesting, especially not over the course of three - admittedly short - novels.

Rape is not bdsm. No plot. The resolution of each book is an opening for the next book twice. Rape is not bdsm. The characters are one dimensional. The conversations stilted. Why does everyone love Beauty?

Ebook
I thoroughly enjoyed Ms. Rice's Vampire and Witching series. But this book was too much and not enough. But maybe she was distracted writing it. But maybe she doesn't know of any other BDSM techniques besides spanking? But...Seriously, how many sentences can you start with 'But' before it's too many? At least 4 times ON ONE PAGE. And how many spankings can you put in a book before it gets tedious? With her amazing imagination, I expected more. This one just didn't do anything for me. :(
