Wow! This was a fantastic start to one of my most highly anticipated series. I didn’t expect the autobiographical narrative, but it worked really well and added an element of mystery to the story. Hadrian has the luxury of knowing what happens so I’m wondering if/how that colors how he’s telling us his story.

On another note, Ruocchio sets up the rest of the series very well. The characters feel real and each have distinctive personalities. At times, it wasn’t even necessary for him to say who was speaking because the dialogue aligned well with who we know these characters to be at this point. The setting feels tangible and not at all far fetched. I’m really excited to explore this universe more and see how Hadrian ultimately becomes the sun eater.

Christopher Ruocchio I also like Dune and The King Killer Chronicle.

Maybe a bit over long and there's several more equally long ones to come. I liked this and all read the rest but not right away.

Name of the Wind in space. Not as poetic as Rothfuss but carefully chosen words for sure. A dramatic and philosophical tale of epic proportions.
