What part 1 lacks, part 2 more than makes up for. Though at the end, they really just throw a shit ton at the wall and saw what stuck lmao

realising your baby brain has protected you from traumatizing memories is scary and weird and this book shows exactly that. the terrifying circle of abuse and the hope of it eventually ending are also present here and it's nice to know that there's a way to do that at least in the fictional world.

nevertheless, i was incredibly confused for the majority of the book but i think i was supposed to.

This book had it all, and sometimes that’s really confusing. During part one, I couldn’t keep up with the flashbacks and the pirate language at times (yep, pirate). The second part I was on board and finally felt caught up with the storyline, well, until the last 20 pages. Things went too off the rails for my liking. I really needed some visual aids to keep up with a lot of what was happening. There were twins, a disappearance, and a scavenger hunt in a creepy old house.

A mix of fantasy with real life Mirrorland started a little slow for me but picked up pace later on . A unique blend of magic realism with some twists and turns in the end made this an interesting read for me .

I would like to thank the TBC Reviewers request group , Netgalley , the publisher & the author for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest and fair review

As I began to lightly dip my toes into physiological thrillers, this book had me reeling for a hot minute. It took a moment extra to digest and unpack! I’m still unsure if I completely understand the entire story a few years later! 😂

I can't say that I really enjoyed reading this. It was pretty depressing and not a happy story. It was compelling, though, and I was always anxious to see what happened next. It's definitely not one I'd want to read again though.

4.5 rounded down. This one is going to take a while to digest, in the best way.
