I don't think I was the target audience for this book.

The writing is simplistic, as if written for 14-year-olds (which is probably the case). It was less enjoyable for an adult to read. The characters were fine and the plot was fast and compelling. It kept you reading. There was a big twist near the end, including some questionable decisions by the characters, and the ending was kind of mid. The middle was my favourite part.

3/5. Entertaining, quick read but nothing mind-blowing.

This book was very predictable to me. As I was reading it I would talk to my boyfriend and be like this is going to happen and then 30 pages later it does. Another thing about this book was the completely unrealistic relationships that the characters had. The Mom and Son relationship seemed very incesty to me and anyone I talked about it to. To me the entire thing was just very cliche. The authors had to have been like 'lets throw every bad thing at this boy' Not just one dead girlfriend that wasn't actually dead and got brought back, but TWO of them. Don't get me started on how Kyle was in a coma for 8 weeks and can barely walk and barely use his shoulder while Kim just has a broken arm.

Vague spoilers -
Here’s the deal. This book was not that good. I had it rated as 3 stars, and then explained the plot to my husband…and hearing it out loud and seeing his reaction pushed me down to 2 stars.
I feel so mean rating books low…because I think the authors put a lot of love into this book. However…the twists are so weird. The characters feel flat and undeveloped. The acknowledgments make it sound like they wanted to use “fairy tale” tropes in this story…but I think if you want to do that, you need to go all the way fairy tale. Hazy, half-dreams that are explained away by real world experiences and sensory inputs just don’t do it for me. Especially when I’m led to believe that the main character “enters into the dream world” in the last few pages to convince his love interest to come back from the dead.
It was just weird. Good thing I bought this book for a couple bucks at goodwill.
