Like most of the world I loved Five feet Apart, so I had some pretty high hopes for this book.
It was good, it had an interesting premise with a cool twist.
I think my issue was the characters.
Something about it just didn't seem real.

It takes a lot for me to cry when I read. Within the last 3 pages, I was bawling because she DIED. And then she resurrected(or something like that) and tears were still streaming down my face and I was mentally yelling(it was the middle of the night when I finished this so I couldn’t yell out loud) at the authors for putting me through this PAIN. Anyway, this was a really good book, despite the whole sobbing-my-eyes-out thing.

All This Time by Mikki Daughtry and Rachael Lippincott
2.5/5 Stars
Read February 2025
All This Time is beautiful at times and ugly at others. However, grief gets lost in the somewhat contrived plot.
Positive messages: 2.5/5
Be humble and admit it when you’re wrong. Friendships are so important and when you love with everything inside of you, you can’t let go easily. Grief is real, but it is important to overcome your sadness and move on from past hurts/traumatic events. Explain your thoughts and feelings to your family and friends to create stronger bonds.
Positive role models: 3/5
Kyle, the main character, struggles with hurt, uncertainty, brokenness, and love. Throughout the novel, he is a character readers can connect with. They will see his strengths and weaknesses and how he cares for his friends and loves with all of his heart.
Sam, Kyle’s close friend, supports him and cares for him deeply. The friendship they share—supportive with bumps in the road—is realistic and one that readers can relate to.
Marley helps Kyle to recover after his accident. Kind and shy with a broken spirit, her and Kyle bond. Slowly, they help each other to overcome past hurt and trauma.
Kimberly (Kim) is Kyle’s first love and best friend. She supports him and explains her thoughts and feelings.
Laura, Marley’s deceased sister, is not present in the novel. However, her death impacts Marley greatly and her character is important to the overall plot.
Dr. Benefield, Kyle’s doctor, is supportive, comforting, and bright. She is friendly and kind toward her patients and you can tell that she really cares about the outcome.
Both Marley and Kyle’s parents are loving and supportive—great examples of what family bonds should look like.
Drinking, Drugs, and Smoking: 2/5
Characters take medicine for physical and mental pain/trauma. Some teenage drinking.
Language: 4.5/5
Frequent use of ‘f—k,’ ‘f—king,’ ‘f—ked,’ ‘s—t,’ ‘a—,’ ‘damn,’ ‘b—h,’ ‘hell,’ and mild others. God’s name is used in vain.
Violence, Gore, and Scariness: 1.5/5
Prior death of loved ones causes PTSD and emotional pain. A detailed car accident results in pain and trauma afterword (emotional intensity). Brain bleeding and other injuries are present and seem to be constant. Kyle falls/passes out some, experiencing pain afterward.
Sex, Romance, and Nudity: 2.5/5
Characters kiss, touch, and explain their feelings for one another. Some more heated scenes involve kissing deeply and one scene leads to characters having sex in a bed (completely closed-door). They wake up afterward in the bed together.
What You Should Know:
I am torn.
For one, this book is really deep and does have lots of emotional density to it. However, I feel like the plot was repetitive.
Kyle or someone he knows keeps falling and waking up in a hospital and being okay. It’s very predictable and not very realistic.
This are my first thoughts.
I really liked the characters, though, which is why I am bumping this up a star. (I am torn between 2 and 3 stars so…2.5)
This book is unique, that’s for sure. Some may love it. Some may like it. Some may hate it. I was in between the liking and hating stage. I thought that it was fine, but it won’t be on my favorites list.
Anyway…
For content look above. I would say this is appropriate for mature teens only, as there is lots of language and difficult topics, along with a closed-door sex scene and some budding romance between teens.
I don’t not recommend this to you, but I don’t recommend it either. If this looks like something you would enjoy, go for it. If not, you aren’t missing much.
Age Range Recommendation: 15+ YA Fiction/Romance
TRIGGER WARNINGS/ADULT CONTENT: NEAR-DEATH EXPERIENCE, DEATH OF LOVED ONES, PTSD/TRAUMA, EMOTIONAL INTENSITY, LANGUAGE, HOSPITAL SETTING, PREMARITAL SEX
