Fun follow up to the first book! I really liked the last half of this book. The first half was a lot of Rhys being a dumbass, which makes sense later, but was slightly annoying to read. This book was very Rhys focused, which I found to be not as compelling, but that’s because David is my fave. But overall a very fun read and I hope there’s more on the horizon!

3.5 stars—rounded up to 4!

I listened to the audiobook and was so excited to finally dive into this sequel after loving the first book! This trio—Rhys, Moira, and David had my heart tight the entire time. The series continues to be deeply character-driven, and we really get to explore the emotional turmoil in both their relationship and individual struggles.

I especially love the magical elements like secret magical societies, demon summonings, and occult practices, they are my favorite to read.. My only wish? That we got more of Moira’s perspective, but that’s probably just because I love her!

Didn’t have as much fun with this follow up to Evocation but I love these characters and seeing them solve problems together. The book definitely could be shorter.

I’m feeling rather Lukewarm. I enjoyed this, as well the first book, but I found the core conflict a little weak and wandering. I think the demon-wrangling was introduced in this book, not the previous, and I think that’s why I’m feeling a little unmoored that something so critical in this book wasn’t mentioned in the previous book.
I feel like the argument between Rhys, Moira, and David was dealt with too neatly. I remember this quote about dialogue in books and I feel this applies to this book and the previous, “the characters talk like they’re trying to get a good grade in therapy.” I think this is why the inter-personal conflict feels kinda weak. I know that the characters will work out, so why worry?
Max was the only concern, but considering this is a trilogy, with the third book likely focusing on Moira, I knew that Max was going to be a passing thing. Though, his motive was boring. I was kinda hoping he’d do something more damaging than just breaking David’s heart.
I still enjoyed this book though, but I can’t rate it any higher than 3.25.

Much like the first book, this is a borderline slice of life. It’s always nice to follow Rhys, David, and Moira. My main frustration in this book was the typos - there are so many it honestly seemed intentional.
