This author is certainly not lacking in ideas - and she does good cliffhangers.

Defiance Dayne is starting to adjust to her role as a witch and charmling, but there is so much for her to do. Avoiding death and dealing with all the other responsibilities on her list would overload anyone.

Dephne doesn't let much slow her down. Her approach to everything going on around her is pretty original and fun. Annette is a blast and the developing love affair with a certain wolf certainly make things interesting.

I think I would say most of the supporting cast make this book interesting. They are sassy and fun. It's not all the younger crowd that enjoy the world of love and danger!

Audio: (3) ⭐⭐⭐
& Story: (4) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

So many things were revealed, yet the vibes remained funny and quirky! I enjoyed this one a lot – especially with the whole "charmed" thing going on! The stuff towards the end felt iffy, wish we could have seen more of the antagonist's motivations because they were really lacking.

Reading the wrap-up at the end reminded me of playing sims – so much happened in what has really been a short amount of time haha. First the house, then the husband, and now a kid too, she got her own nuclear family in like 6 months!? Curious to see how the next one pans out with the perspective switch! These are fun books!

This is the third book in this series that is rich with fantasy, romance (open door), magic and mystery.

In the first two books in this series, we met Defiance (Dephne) Dayne and her BFF Annette. Dephne lost her restaurant, her money and her husband all in one day (the husband was responsible for the other losses). So when she learns she had a grandmother who has just left her a house in Salem, MA it is too good to be true. Then she discovers that the house (quasi-mansion) is haunted by her long dead grandfather, Perceval, there is a hunky shapeshifter who lives in the basement as a full-time “handyman” and her grandmother has been yanked out of the afterworld into a quasi-corporeal existence.

In this book, we pick up six months after Dephne has found out about her powers and she is coming into her own as a super-witch (one of three Charmlings dedicated to saving the world). She has acquired a 4 year old ghost child and is being tracked by a warlock hunter. Annette is exhibiting uncontrolled powers. And the neighbors have turned out to be killers in disguise.

The series is just fun and entertaining. In the first two books, the characters were coming into their roles and personalities and the world building to shape the location was continued. It has been well created for an expanded series. I look forward to more of the series. Recommend to readers interested in fantasy, magical realism, witches, and mysteries. Caution to readers who have issues with open door sex scenes.

🎧︎Beguiled is the third book in the Betwixt and Between series. We have returned to Salem, Massachusetts, to catch up on the latest events in Defiance’s life. Let me tell you when you hang with Defiance, her best friend Annette and all the supporting cast you can expect to have an interesting, fun and dangerous journey. This installment delivered all these elements in spades.

SUMMARY
In this installment, Defiance focuses on finding out who murdered her grandmother. Added to that, it would seem someone wants to kill them all. Is the same person who killed her grandmother or is this a different threat? Defiance will need to figure it out before they all end up six feet under.
She also needs to figure out the next step in her relationship with Roane, the sexy shifter, who had every woman drooling over him. Then there is the neighbour who is hell bent on getting her to leave Salem and Annette’s magic is spiralling out of control. Did I mention that there is a new witch in a town and a warlock hunter whose may have nefarious intentions? Poor Defiance can’t seem to catch a break.

I had a blast with 🎧︎Beguiled. The mystery, romance and all the other events combined made or a compelling read. This is my favourite of the series so far. Defiance has grown throughout the series and this installment showcased her strengths, her confidence and her abilities.
The romance between Defiance and Roane sizzled an popped. I loved how much their relationship grew throughout the series. Roane protective nature shined throughout this installment. I had fun watching the two of them together and without a doubt they made the perfect couple.  The only issue I had with their romance had to do with Roane's insistence on getting married, knowing of Defiance's caginess on subject based on her prior experience.
The mystery surrounded the murder of her grandmother was tied and I must good riddance to the perpetrator. Honestly, I never once suspected their involvement.
🎧︎Beguiled delivered some interesting revelati0ns, but also left me with some questions, which have me eager to pick up the next book.  I am happy to report the focus of the next book will be on Annette, Defiance's bestie. That woman is a riot and and an absolute delight.  I can't wait to see what she will bring to the series.
This series has been so much fun and I do recommend it to readers who enjoy cozy mysteries blended with urban fantasy with some magic and romance stirred into the mix.
Narration
Traci Odom continues to narrate the series. The versatility in her performance kept me glued to my listening device. This is a narrator I would listen to again and again. She captured the personalities of each of the characters, my favourite being the rapport between Defiance and Annette. Her tone, accents, and voices for the characters were on point.
