This is the first comic book I have received for review and I want to thank Sea Lion Books for giving me the opportunity to do so. I haven't read the previous comics in the series but I have read the books so I have background knowledge about what Storm Born Comic (Volume 3) is about.

I love Richelle Mead's writing and have read all of her Dark Swan Books and own all of her Vampire Academy books so when I got the chance to review Storm Born Comic (Volume 3) I jumped at the chance, not only would I have knowledge of the storyline, but I would get to see the pictures and drawings for the characters and finally get to see if my imagination put them to justice.

Well, my imagination is severely lacking in the imaginative department. Not only do the comics follow the books perfectly, but the artwork is amazing and I have to say Volusian is kinda scary looking, not at all what I imagined him to be, but now that I have seen an actual drawing of him there is no way I would cross him.

Storm Born Volume 3 starts off where Eugenie has decided to cross over to try to find Jasmine and has enlisted the help of Volusian, Nandi and Finn right up to the point were she is discovered by Aeson.

I am so liking Storm Born Volume 3 that I NEED to find where I can buy copies of the first two comics and this one too.

Recently I had the pleasure of reading the third installment of the Dark Swan comic series by Richelle Mead. For those of you who are following along with my reviews, you know that the series revolves around a woman named Eugenie Markham, who has the supernatural ability to banish spirits known as “the gentry” from attempting to gain entry and harm people in the human world. She is a protector of sorts, and she has honed her skills over the years so that she has become very efficient at banishing spirits back to their own world. This time, however, she must enter this world in order to save a human girl who has been hopelessly trapped by an evil spirit king.

The story begins by following Eugenie as she prepares to travel to the spirit world. The girl, Jasmine, has been captured by a spirit king known as Aeson for some type of enslavement. Eugenie enlists the help of three spirits so that she can protect herself in their world. Two of them, Volusian and Nadi, were contractually obligated to help, as Eugenie had entered them into a form of indentured servitude to her in exchange for their lives when she first encountered them. The third spirit, Finn, was free to come and go as he pleased, as he and Eugenie had struck up a friendship over the years. After outlining her plan to the three spirits, she travels with Jasmine’s brother Wil and her roommate Tim to a deserted stretch of desert where the distance between the human and spirit worlds grew thin. Fortunately, they make it safely to the spirit world, but are soon under siege and brought to King Dorian, the king of the Oak Land. Eugenie and her spirits are wary, as they are unsure that King Dorian will believe her story and instead kill her. Will Eugenie be able to save herself? Will she be able to convince Dorian to help her defeat Aeson? What will happen to Jasmine?

The first thing I noticed about issue #3 was how fantastic the graphics were. I’m not sure if it’s because there were more colors in this one, but the imagery was much better here than in the first two. Traveling into the other world, Eugenie moves through lands that are differentiated by season. It was interesting to see the drawings change for each world and what stood out in each one. Additionally, the storyline seemed to be more exciting and took interesting twists and turns that drew me in, and has me eager to read the next installment. It’s interesting to see how strong the character development has become from issue to issue. Each issue is fairly short, yet packed with multiple revelations about Eugenie’s character and that of her stepfather Roland. It’s my favorite so far, and has really piqued my interest in this series. If you haven’t already, I definitely recommend giving these graphic novels a try!

As I said on my review of the Storm Born Comics, Volume 1 and 2, I am a HUGE Richelle Mead fan and her Dark Swan series is one of my favorite Urban Fantasy series EVER! THey were actually one of the first I have ever read and they have stuck with me ‘til this day. I was thoroughly impressed with Volume 1 and 2, that when I got a chance to read Volume 3, I was like “HELL YES!” LOL

First of all I have to say that it is very hard to review something so short. I mean, each Volume has around 32 pages and not much plot content at all.

However, it is quite spectacular to be able to see such amazing drawings and representations of characters I absolutely adore and this latest Volume was NOT an exception!

Storm Born is definitely an great example of that and the images are amazingly done and the the story is very well constructed to both include enough backstory and action to make you not want to put it down.

In this newest installment we finally get to see Dorian! OMG, the King is here LOL. So funny to look at him now, after all that has happened in the series and see him like the first time I saw him. I love him NOW, but at that time, I so didn’t hehe.

I still believe that both Dark Swan fans and newcomers will LOVE these and I will continue to totally recommend them! I cannot wait for the next volumes!

In this issue of Storm Born, after Eugenie decided to visit the Otherworld in full body she gathers all the help she can get. With her three servants by her side, she ventures into the Otherworld. Her plan is to find Dorian, a gentry kind enemy of the one who holds the girl campitve, and ask for his help. While on Dorian's castle she discovers a few things she didn't expect to. Then she starts her mission for the retrieval of the lost girl, but not everything goes as she hoped for.

I am getting really into this story, now I'm off to read the next one. Hopefully Kiyo will appear soon.

Issue 3 of Dark Swan, Storm Born finds Eugenie making preparations to travel over into Otherworld to rescue a young human girl kidnapped by Aeson, one of several evil King’s that rule the Gentry (fae folk).

Otherworld is a dangerous place and Eugenie wisely decides to bring along some backup in the form of her minions; Volusian, Nandi and Finn. Again there is eye catching artwork and sarcastic humor, especially when Eugenie interacts with Volusian an enslaved damned soul who wants her dead but is forced to do her bidding. When the motley crew crosses over into Otherworld you instantly know it. Eugenie’s minions all take their true form and the scenery changes into a similar but decidedly different landscape. Adventure ensues, blood splatters the pages and King Dorian makes an appearance. Apparently the gentry are ruled by many a horny King but you won’t find me complaining if they’re all as fetching as this Dorian.

Everything starts coming together in this volume as King Dorian fills in a few of the blanks that had me scratching my head in the previous issues. I have to say this one is my favorite of the three I’ve read. It’s violent, sexy and ends on another cliff hanger that has me anxiously awaiting the next volume in the series.
