read for a book discussion program - definitely more interested in listening to the more modern BBC dramatisation that gives Jupiter more agency, bc Poe's characterization of him here is pretty egregious.

weird and absurd, insanity
good riddle(especially the deciphering) but boring in the beginning

dark mysterious tense slow-paced

Very tense. I was nervous reading this creepy tale. First short story that I have read in a long time. I will be reading more short stories!

Just a short story about a hunt for Captain Kidd’s treasure on the South Carolina coast. More concerned with explaining the reveal and decoding inlaid puzzles rather than conveying an engaging Gothic tale. Think I was expecting something spooky so was a little let down by the narrative. Did run into some extremely interesting racist stereotyping (and speech in dialect), unsure if this was just representative of the times or it says something about the author.

I loved the cryptologic elements from this short-story, amazing!
