One of the books in the supreme court case about read alouds in MD schools. This book is a great introduction to rhyming and is a beautiful gay story that should be in classrooms. The supreme court ruling breaks my heart.
hopeful lighthearted

this is such a sweet & adorable book. the art is beyond cute, and the story is a nice lgbt retelling of the 'royalty and knight fall in love' trope (and i may have cried reading it)
adventurous emotional hopeful inspiring lighthearted mysterious fast-paced

Great Idea, fantastic artwork, poor writing.

This book would have been much better if the author hadn't tried to make it rhyme.  Forcing the lines to rhyme led to some very awkward phrasing and a clunky, inconsistent rhythm.

Some examples of lines that tripped up my tongue

"Thank you," he told his parents. "I appreciate that you tried, but i'm looking for something different in a partner by my side."

"All the villagers ran in fear! Even the soldiers hid and fled.  "This beast is far too great.  We must retreat or we'll be dead!"  (They hid then fled?  Isn't that backwards?)

"And in a flash, to each it felt there simply was no other."

If the book had been written as simple prose instead of twisting it into awkward shapes to make it rhyme it would have been a far better book.

Cute as heck!

Simply charming! The artwork has a lovely vibe to it that fits the story so well.

I thought this was cute. It could also serve as a good introduction to same-sex couples as they approach it quite naturally and gently.
