This was cute, but it felt more like a Nancy Drew book than a romance. I did appreciate the side plots with Wes’s mom, and Nadine’s toxic boss and how both were handled (even though they were both over the top). It was interesting to see Wes learning through how Nadine treated him just how toxic his mom is.
The ending felt a little too “wrapped in a bow” for me, especially The Herald stuff, but I love the idea of Nadine shaping the obits into what she wants them to be.

DID NOT FINISH

They both annoyed me, and since it's a rom-com, I didn't want to stick around until they kissed. Bailed halfway.

🎧 Dual 3rd person POV. Narrators were John Cho and Philippa Soo, I love both of these actors. They both did a decent job, but they didn't put in that extra oomph to their acting that I think audiobooks require (versus acting on stage or screen).

🌶️ 0/5 This was the most chaste book I've read in a while. There was barely even kissing on the page. The door is fully closed. Sex happens, but it's just alluded to afterwards, nothing on page.

🏳️‍🌈✊ Both MCs are Asian (one full, one mixed). I appreciated the mixed race representation with a character who is only ambiguously ethnic, and who doesn't have any cultural connection to her heritage. It's a more nuanced diversity that we don't get a lot of but I recognized some of myself in her. FMC's best friend is queer, and another side character is hinted at being queer but we don't know definitively.

This book was ok, I wasn’t as compelled by the story as I hoped I would be. The pacing was slow, and I didn’t enjoy the audiobook narrators which I think detracted from the experience.
