I thought this was really enjoyable! Though I wasn't sure WHY a 'superior' Earth would want to pilfer all the great artefacts from the so-called Beta Earth (though, it was suggested that because Alpha Earth has less suffering, their art is somehow less good - playing into the whole 'the artist must suffer to produce art' thing, which I think is an issue), I did greatly enjoy how the whole parallel earth concept was explored, particularly the civilisation being in Northern Africa/Egypt. I suppose characters Charles and Julius were a little 2D, but I still enjoyed reading about them, and am writing this review having read the second book already so can say that Julius' character vastly improves.

This was a fun, dynamic read and I immediately moved onto the next book in the series!

This was a delightful surprise. I really didn't know what to expect of this book, but once I started it I trouble putting it down (or pausing it in my case, and even though the one narrator was maybe not the best choice). Intriguing premise, fast paced adventure with plenty of time for character development, intrigue, and interesting theories/thoughts. There was a bit of unnecessary language, but it really was a great story and well told in a timeless fashion. I look forward to reading the rest of the series. It's a breath of fresh air to read a new writer who actually is good at telling a story and not just creating shocking scenes or soap opera couples. Highly recommend to anyone who likes political thrillers, history, adventure, or sci-fi

Bored but loving the title and cover.

finally, a good book this year!

I am grateful to have had it recommended to me, so when you read this, thanks ria

Gripping read

This book was recommended to me, and I am thoroughly grateful for it. It started interesting and just got better. The twists were unexpected and added to the story, can't wait for the next instalment.

Fun little time-traveling, multiverse, Indiana Jones romp.

2.5 stars rounded up. A bit of fun with an interesting concept, where curators from ‘alpha Earth’ (an alternate Earth in the multiverse) nip to ‘beta Earth’ (us) to rescue important objects from destruction to keep in their museum. However the writing was a bit messy, with only one character in first person despite them getting their ‘own’ separate chapters which was distracting, and the author appears to have a raging teenage crush on their own creation, Ridiculously Handsome Julius. Overall a gentle bit of soft sci fi thriller, reminiscent of the Chronicles of St Mary’s series (of which I also only read the first one!)
