A solid 3.5 ⭐️. Absolutely loved the combination of noir, supernatural fantasy, and a charming sapphic romance - the perfect quick read for Pride month. The romance is really beautifully drawn, you can feel the love seeping through the pages. I love how our protagonist fixates on her partner’s little mannerisms and features. And even in such a short book, tou author still manages to touch on some of the issues facing women, and particularly queer women, at the time. Echoing some other people’s reviews, I wish it were longer! I wanted to see more of this gritty, cigarette soaked world and read more adventures of Edith and Helen, but I think the author did a good job of including enough world building in the short page count to get you hooked. Whilst the writing is very solid, this does feel a little like a Supernatural fanfiction. I half expected Sam and Dean to pop up on some time travelling adventure that Cas has sent them on. Much of the way the mythology is represented is straight out of the Supernatural franchise. It would have been nice to see more of a reinterpretation of some of the classic demon/sold soul/heaven/hell story beats. But if you like Supernatural, you’ll LOVE this little novella.

The concept of the book sounded really good. The execution was a bit average for me, and I did not particularly enjoy the religious aspects of the book.
