I know that I am in a minority here but what an anticlimax!

The feeling of disappointment was palpable as I finished this book. This has been on my list to read from childhood and now that I finally have, I couldn't help but feel let down. The legends and stories surrounding this book have always intrigued me, but the reality didn't quite live up to the hype.

The story started off strong, and I was fully immersed in it. However, as the plot progressed and Watson made his way to the Moors, the once-thrilling suspense began to dissipate.

It might be an unpopular opinion but my opinion of Sherlock Holmes, the legendary detective, was not a favourable one. His arrogance, self-importance, and occasional rudeness didn't do much to add to the overall story and only served to make me dislike him even more.

Towards the end of the book, there were a few chapters that sparked my interest once again, adding some much-needed excitement and intrigue. However, the ending was anticlimactic, leaving me feeling numb and unfulfilled.

Despite my disappointment, I was still glad to have finally read the book and to have ticked it off my reading bucket list.

Wow I was so cool when I was 12.

This was the best book in the Sherlock Holmes series so far.
The whole story was really fascinating. Something I really loved was how John Watson did a lot of the investigation on his own and he was really smart and fearless.
Spoiler Also the discovery near the end about the Stapletons being a couple w something I didn't expect at all. The part where Sherlock and Watson thought Sir Henry had died was described amazingly and it was a huge shock to me, but then I read that it's Selden and I was relieved (for Sir Henry, but poor Selden). Lastly, I think that Stapleton was a really intelligent and cunning criminal.

--- SPOILERS AHEAD ---

I really enjoyed the book, it was very approachable for a classic with an easily readable language and format.

I enjoyed the plot and setting as well, I didn't have any idea who had done it untill the end and the pacing of the book kept it moving along nicely with no dragging/slow parts. Each chapter was as engaging as the last.

I think this book would have rated a lot higher if I hadn't alread watch and loved the BBC show Sherlock. I went into the book with pictures of characters, their mannerisms and relationships already in my head, so at time the characters did act how I expected them too and in the beginning it kind of threw me but by the end the book characters felt very different from the TV characters and I think I actually like them more.

I think in the future I might go and read the entire series, and see if that changes my rating of this book, instead of just jumping into the middle of a series.

IMPORTANT NOTE: These reviews are all my own opinion and a reflection of my personal tastes and mood at the time of reading, NOT a reflection of the books plot or authors ability.
