Reading about Lucy’s pandemic lockdown experience was tough - I’m not really fond of reliving those days and didn’t know the setting before I picked it up. But Strout creates characters you can spend time with. The diary - like narration was annoying at times, and all of their characters have unlikable qualities but the writing makes you care for them as it is very clear that Strout lives every single one.

I wasn’t aware of the Covid setting when I started this book, and I’m still very much too fatigued of that time to be reading books focused on it. However the author has a great writing style so that part of the experience was excellent - I just wasn’t happy with the plot line personally.

slow-paced

I’m glad this book exists for history, but I wasn’t ready for another COVID era rehashing. There was also enough o lap with some of the other books in the series that I was bored at times.
