“Betrayal” is the second book in the Syrenka trilogy. It takes off a few days after where ‘Promises’ ended and is followed by Arise.
Eviana is back with her clan where she has taken her rightful place of that of the leader. While she has to prove to the clan members that she is capable, she also has to prepare herself for the war. She and Kain have a plan, but for that to work, she has to convince the Council that she is strong enough. But the council has their own plans and they decide that she needs a bit of training and sends her to a formally shunned member of their community. And oh! They also decide that the youngest council member, who also happens to be handsome and charming, should accompany her. Things start to spiral from there. Will Eviana be able to convince the council to take an offensive stance on the looming war? Will she be able to live up to the expectations of her clan?
Before I say anything else, I just have to say this – in this installment I lost patience with Eviana when it came to her love life. It was like she is attracted to any good looking guy around her even though she keeps chanting to herself that her heart belongs to Brendan! I felt like smacking her throughout the book! Okay, I am done with my ranting… Now more about the book…
Unexpected attacks and twists keep the readers on the edge. If you thought that the twists in book one were surprising, then let me warn you that they are nothing compared to what the author has in store for her readers in this book. There’s a lot more action in this book than in Promises. That certainly spices things up for the readers. We get to learn more about the inhabitants of this amazing fantasy world – their characteristics, their powers and their weaknesses. It was entertaining to see the dynamics between Kain and Eviana as they discovered and nurtured their individual powers. Some of the characters in the book will surprise you.
All in all, keeping Eviana’s love life out of it, I really enjoyed this book. Ms.Amber has done it again and for that I would certainly recommend this book to the people with interest in the fantasy world!

ahh I wish I didn't work tomorrow so I could pick up book three right now!! But book three will have to wait until the morning (:
Eviana Dumahl went through a whirlwind of heartache in the first book of the Syrenka series. Now in this this second installment, ‘Betrayal’ Eviana is back with her family and friends. She now has to take her role as clan leader now that her parents have been brutally murdered by a crazy mermaid. Eviana and Kain settle into their clan leader roles and go on to meet the council, which are the head of the mermaids, in order to discuss what to do in their battle against their biggest villain Lucian Sutherland. This book has no shortage of drama or action. Eviana unravels some of the mysterious behind Lucian’s intentions but the question is will she be able to handle it or will she let it destroy her?
I am absolutely in love with this series I wish they would make them into movies! Those would be amazing to see on the big screen! As you know if you read my review of the first book, ‘Promises’ I did like Brendan but a big part of me hoped for Eviana and Kain to get together. Well ‘Betrayal’ totally changed my view on Brendan; I no longer like him at all. I think his actions in the second book are very selfish and childish and I really hope Eviana is done with him because now he just grates on my nerves. I absolutely adore Kain and I believe him and Eviana belong together. I did love all the drama the love triangle caused though. There’s also another man introduced into Eviana’s life in this one his name is Graham and he is a council member. He also plays a very big role in this book.
I don’t want to give you too many spoilers because this is just too good of a book but I just loved and devoured this book in two days. There was so much happening that I did not see coming it kept me hooked and on the edge of my seat. This series really is dynamite! It was a very fresh read for me, very unique and very enjoyable.
I cannot wait to sink my teeth into the final installment in this series!
Amber Garr is definitely one to be on the lookout for.

The first in the series was great, but this book had a lot of twists and turns. I could not put it down. Great characters and wonderful plot.
4.5 hearts
If you haven't read book one there's no way around spoilers in my review. So read book one first! Betrayal is a transitional book in this series of mermaids and other paranormal creatures of the aqueous persuasion . The first book introduced the hidden society with a big bang. In the mist of the war brewing, we are introduced to the infrastructure of the mer political dictators. We see the strategies of building of armies while perfecting powers of the royal duo in the aftermath of Eviana returning home and living the leadership role she was destined to entitle.
You can feel a much larger scheme brewing and this is only the quiet before that storm. Another leading heartthrob enters the story named Graham. This playboy and leads me to believe Eviana will forever be attracted to men who smell like “trouble”. Brendan comes back into the picture with forgiveness in his heart. Kain comes around also. While he hasn't forgiven her he sends mix messages that would imply an impending reconciliation. There is confusion among all the love interests. It's fun how the the interations between each suitor toys with the reader so much that's it's hard to know which way the tide will turn.
The characters continue to grow in this book and even Eviana seems to have aged far beyond the impulsive teen from book one. I continue to marvel at the ingenious plot of this series. I admit a little disappointed that a few parts were a bit predictable. The way things played out weren't however, while a tad heartless. True to the title, Eviana is betrayed and boy is it BAD on so many different levels! The ending is shocking! I seriously sat, for an uncalculated amount of time, blind eyed facing the white walls with a million fins running trough my head.
One thing that I can say after reading two books by Amber Garr is her writing grabs your addition from the very first paragraph and you will not stop reading until you are done. Even if you are forced to pause, you feel guilty.....and simply compelled to pick the book back up until you're finished. it is absolutely addicting. I am a junkie for the next book.
*Big thanks to the author for entrusting me with an honest review.

Fantastic book, wonderful ending, which just makes me want to read the 3rd book now, and I just might do that!!!
Firstly, Ms. Amber Garr, please please please stop with all the yummy Guys you are throwing my way!!! I was totally torn apart in the first book (Promises), I don’t need to be completely splintered. Seriously, Brendan is just hot and the love of Eviana’s life. Kain is gorgeous and what’s not to love when the guy is just so gentle, generous, warm and loving?! And OMG, Graham is Bad-Boy-Licious with a to-die-for accent! How’s a girl to choose? I’m glad that’s not my job
Eviana went home without Brendan to assume her responsibility as her clan leader. She may be determined to be a good & strong leader but reality is she is young with no training whatsoever. On top of that, she’s just lost (hopefully temporarily but it still hurts) the love of her life. She is in a pretty bad spot right about now. Things are about to get any better though as Lucian Sutherland wants her back.
The youngest member of the Council, Graham Forrester, shows every sign of being a dissipated young soul with some strong powers. He is also very attractive and Eviana is troubled by this attraction. He, however, has no compunction about his attraction to her and is willing to play the game.
I’m loving this book! I’m loving the story and am loving Eviana. She is strong but there were moments of weaknesses. I’m happy that her vulnerability isn’t hidden but is known to her friends & supporters. I have to admit I wasn’t a tad surprised when I found out why Lucian wanted Eviana and was slightly disappointed though I couldn’t really see any other reason… and Eviana is still the only fully developed character with pretty much 99% of the book focused on her. Well, I didn’t mind it so much in this book as I was really drawn to the story & to Eviana although I do wish to have had that few sneak peeks into Brendan or Kain or even Marisol. I really want to know what make Kain tick!

As with the first book I loved the pace of the story, there was never a dull moment. I was almost on the edge of my seat the whole time wanting to know what was going to happen. Quite a few things that I was not at all expecting. Loved this one just as much as Promises, if not more.
Eviana is sent away to try and strengthen her powers in preparation for the upcoming war. Attacks are happening everywhere, harming, and even killing, some of Eviana's friends and family, Lucian is behind it all and he is still after Eviana, but why?
As I think everyone has, based on the title I assumed that someone was going to betray Eviana in this book. Although there turned out to be more than just one betrayal, I had a suspicion of a particular person right from the beginning (which turned out to be right), but throughout the book I just couldn't be sure. I had no idea what to expect, and that was something I really enjoyed. After the first book in the series we knew (or at least I assumed) there was a particular reason Lucian wanted Eviana, and while a reason was revealed to us, I am still not sure if it is the whole reason. So I can't wait to start the next book Arise and find out what is going to happen.
I can't really think of much to say about the characters. I think we definitely got to see Brendan's love for Eviana more in this book and understand him more as character, but I do not like Brendan any more. I can understand his situation, but I still don't like him. I like Kain's character, and am hoping to see a romance develop between him and Eviana in the next book, I guess we'll just have wait to see. Graham was a new character introduced to the story in Betrayal. While I liked his character, and the flirting with Eviana was fun, I felt a bit like if Eviana was so in love with Brendan then she wouldn't be so attracted to Graham. So that was all a little weird for me.
I enjoyed this book just as much as the first one, should definitely check it out if you have read Promises, and if you haven't I would highly recommend you give it a go. I am super excited to get started on Arise.
Thank you so much to the author, Amber Garr, for sending me a copy. Having tons of fun with this series.
